Meet AzRA river guide Jared Sears!

Jared originally learned to navigate rivers in Alaska, & the last 20 years of his 24 year career has been rooted in Grand Canyon. His favorite part of the day on the river is at night, when the sun goes down and you can listen to the desert "wake up".

Kayaker in an orange kayak floats down the river with a sheer cliff covered in white salt deposits.

Where ancient waters seep out of the rocks. Evidence of ancient salty water can be found in Tapeats Sandstone, in the form of salt deposits left behind as groundwater percolates through rock. Remnants of mineral-rich water from ancient beach & river sediments.

Throwback Thursday! In the mid-’80s to early ’90s, the Bureau of Reclamation ran Glen Canyon Dam for peak hydropowerβ€”28,000 cfs by day, 5,000 cfs at night. A 23,000 cfs swing in 24 hours.

Great for power. Brutal for the river ecosystem & trips in the Grand Canyonβ€”boats left high & dry by morning.
