While House Republicans continue to exert their personal religious views in hearings with no disregard for the separation of church and state, I will continue to ‘grandstand’ for ALL people, when it comes to addressing the real policy needs of women, children, and families.
Btw, I drafted and originally sponsored one of these bipartisan bills because I believe in providing options for parents in desperate situations —and saving lives.
Unfortunately, my bill was taken out of the package, and handed to a Republican member, by the House Speaker.

We heard testimony from one of the Republican bill sponsors, who took this as an opportunity to suggest that
“We've made every convenience possible in the state of Michigan if you want to choose to have an abortion,”
…the WIC program, while not acknowledging the deep systemic issues and support needed for women to raise children. They then used the hearing to promote their personal religious views —an inappropriate use of a government meeting.
A 14-year-old child having a baby is not normal.
House Republicans took advantage of a committee hearing on a package of bills that would allow safety newborn devices to be installed in public buildings —to disparage access to women’s reproductive healthcare and…

“Alien land laws were unconstitutional decades ago and remain unconstitutional, impractical, and xenophobic today. Our nation has had a long, unfortunate history of anti-Asian sentiment that led to the exclusion of immigrants from certain countries like the 1881 Chinese Exclusion Act, barring people from becoming citizens, and prohibiting land ownership by Asian immigrants, like the California Alien Land Law of 1913. All of these policies were rightfully overturned many years ago and should not be revisited here in 2025.
“Our Constitution clearly protects property rights for Michiganders, and our civil rights laws protect individuals from discrimination based on national origin. House Bills 4233-4234 do nothing to help Michiganders struggling to afford a decent home or solve our housing crisis. In fact, these bills would make it harder for realtors to do their jobs, further xenophobia, create a logistical nightmare, and would absolutely be challenged quickly in court for being unconstitutional.”

I was proud to stand in solidarity today with my children's dedicated teachers, support staff, and administrators. Our children’s future depends on us standing up and fighting for them. I won’t back down.
At a time when schools are already facing record cuts, we must do everything in our power to ensure fair salaries for teachers, free breakfast and lunch for every child, transportation, full funding for at-risk students, and CTE.
We should be working to strengthen our schools, not stripping them of the resources that shape the future of our children.
Michigan relies on $550 million in federal funding to support critical school programs, and if that funding is slashed, our state’s education budget could take a devastating 10% hit.
Yet just two weeks ago, Michigan House Republicans voted to gut $5 billion from our School Aid Fund, while the current presidential administration actively works to dismantle the Department of Education.
As a mother of four young children in Michigan's public schools, I know firsthand that an attack on our education system is an attack on our families—and we will not stand for it.
This morning, thousands of educators, parents, students, and community leaders participated in a national “walk-in” to send a clear message to our government: protect our students and families.
