Hi John, understood. I’ll introduce myself properly and send over the details. All of our projects include pacing and flex to folks capacity but I’ll see where you are at. I realise it’s unlikely in the current climate but I hope the workload eases regardless and you get to recuperate. Solidarity

2/2 are too complex to use in this context. I would love to chat if you have capacity / availability? I’m trying to create plain English comms and diagrams that explain the relative stability at a glance (amongst other things). Would be great to reflect on this with you / introduce myself properly.

1/2 Hi John. I’m gathering info for a prospective panel on the topic of sustainable economics and disability/economic exclusion. I have read the DNS articles on the stability of welfare spending. Might you have any other plain English 2nd sources that discuss this topic? The Gov’s own forecasts

We will shortly make an announcement about renewing our organisational commitment to working for the trans community. We have already started hiring. We know, and they know, that trans people are right at the cutting edge of fascism. What we can do we will do.

Many people will lose PIP welfare. I remind folks that PIP is not an out of work benefit it is solely and directly related to people’s needs. There is no purpose to these cuts except sanctioning Disabled people for being Disabled. These cuts are dangerous. They will affect you and your loved ones.

A grassroots movement is calling on all Americans to abstain from shopping with major retailers tomorrow, February 28, as part of an “economic blackout.”

I encourage you to join. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/boycott

From EARTHSEED: THE BOOKS OF THE LIVING
Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought.
To be led by a coward is to be controlled
by all that the coward fears.
To be led by a fool is to be led
by the opportunists who control the fool.
To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen.
To be led by a liar is to ask to be told lies.
To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.

Doing the unthinkable: The deep cuts to the #CDC's workforce today are expected to decimate the Epidemic Intelligence Service, a program that has trained public health rapid responders for decades.

Then you have on top of that general essential healthcare and studies that won’t be undertaken if a funding freeze remains in place. This legal action against the freeze is of upmost importance.

Heart attack symptoms in women not being recognised by diagnostic criteria (a pre-existing issue we’ve had long before this research terminology ban) will seem like nothing compared to the harm & ignorance created if the terms like ‘woman’ or ‘Disabilitiy’ are banned from use in scientific study.

What’s more omitting essential words (and therefore specific people or demographics) from studies ensures that the results we will see collated will be wrong and miss essential data sets. We already have an issue with diagnosis, drugs & treatments being only being appropriate for male physiology…

When the global community thinks what is happening in America doesn’t affect them I will simply present this one example for comment.

Masses of medical & scientific research is under threat. This will adversely impact much needed global data & studies that the world needs to advance healthcare.

Americans 504 is under attack and therefore so are your human rights but perhaps more importantly here is a thread on what you can do about it before you can’t do anything at all… www.linkedin.com/posts/rebecc...

I also know @rosswilcockmedia.bsky.social would be interested in this in terms of updating and mapping accessible routes for the visually impaired and blind community - we could perhaps put a working /campaign group together.

Perhaps after a wee bit more research we could tag the councils and Scot gov into this thread 🪡 and see what possibilities we might stitch together to improve public information and use of pedestrian walkways for folks using white canes, wheelchairs, buggies and mobility aid walkers.

How would they know on new requests the distance to pre-existing dropped kerbs etc. I feel a campaign brewing @calumgrevers.bsky.social 😉 Because collating and sharing that data would vastly improve council services and civic life. Certainly it currently adversely affects the impact of equality.

If the issue is release of data then perhaps adding a caveat to new requests on whether folks are happy to share the location of new dropped kerbs for use in future council accessibility maps and a project requesting permission from old applicants. The council should surely keep the data else…

When new crossings/pavings are created/updated to see if dropped kerbs and tactile paving are always implemented or whether they are only created if specifically requested. They legally have to do these for new works and they wouldn’t pertain to individual’s request so could be data we could ask for

Ooh good move! I had a look also for Glasgow on data for dropped kerbs but the algorithm just took me to pages on requesting them. Another example of a design that would benefit many (that is only applied when an individual requests it. I was trying to also find public Equality Impact assessments 🧵

This has been an idea that has occurred to me too. Especially when councils have the original planning data. They would need to be regularly updated though - as you say from crowd sourced data - due to the transient nature of barriers and disruption.

Euans guide maps the accessibility of venues but again this is venue based. It would make sense to map the accessibility of pedestrian areas or transport routes. This could also include mappings that are useful to blind folks too like tactile paving and crossings with audio or rotating cones.

have crowd sourced updates for transient disruption or issues like temporary road works, on-pavement parking, outdoor cafe seating and events etc

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

The Sociability app UK maps crowd sourced data for accessible areas. They also send out teams to review areas. Google maps also has a wheelchair accessible route feature though I don’t know what data it uses or how accurate it is. I think it would be a great idea to use civic planning data and… 🧵

After moving in here I’ve decided to practice what UR movement preaches - pacing and making more conscious choices on where we expel energy. For now I’ll be more active/vocal in our face-to-face communities. I will however re-share folk’s important insightful words + some key thoughts or drawings 🌱

Since I set up @artsemergency.bsky.social (not inc 2y piloting & discursively developing a project) FOUR people have signed up to our community EVERY DAY. That’s now 17,200 people over the past 12 years. 90% of our team & 100% of our trustee board would have been eligible for the project aged 16🧵

It looks great. It’ll get there section by section. Might even inspire those with the private land sections to match it in accessibility too. Congratulations again!

Also need to think about packing Universal Recognition’s digital bags for the trip over here too… Leaving that one for the time being though. Slowly does it. Maybe everyone can carry a bag each 😬?! A more daunting fresh start. Hoping to find more folks travelling this way soon.
