IOI researchers traced infections of Campylobacter, the no. 1 bacterial cause of diarrhoeal disease, back to their source — estimating that 80% came from poultry.
They recommend improved animal welfare on farms to control poultry-related infections.

Today is #WorldTBDay.
~500,000 people each year are infected with drug-resistant TB, and we need new drugs to fight this global threat.
At the IOI, chemists, biologists, clinicians, vaccinologists and health sociologists are working together to develop new therapies for TB.
IOI’s Dr Kirsty Sands speaks to BBC Discovery about the global impact of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). She highlights concerning findings that newborn babies in West Africa are already carrying antibiotic-resistant bacteria at birth.

The #IOIECR26 conference has officially begun!
A huge thank you to everybody attending today, especially to all of our speakers and poster presenters sharing their #AMR research!
Researchers at the IOI developed a new method to pinpoint the "hidden" gene networks driving MRSA resistance. This AI-driven approach is 76% more accurate than standard models, it can establishes a predictive model for how different superbugs adapt over time.

IOI and Oxford Biology scientists estimate ~80% of Campylobacter infections are linked to poultry, and many are drug-resistant.
Campylobacter is the #1 bacterial cause of food poisoning. Cooking chicken well, and practicing good hygiene, prevents infection.

🧬 Researchers at the IOI have revealed that bacteria evolve through complex networks of genes rather than single mutations.
Going forward, this approach can support more effective strategies to limit the spread of antibiotic resistance.
