Oooh, I had never seen that. Thank you! That makes adding detail so much simpler!
The Scorpio from Blake's 7. Which is a similar wedge shape to the Thunderbolt.
Whilst it would be easy to say there's a lot of Imperial Star Destroyer about it (and funnily enough would share a lot with the Acclimator which showed up in Star Wars over a decade later), I prefer to think that it's actually inspired by the Scorpio from Blake's 7.
Feels pretty lightly armed for something so big with only a Plasma Cannon and a pair of multilasers. Although, to be fair, the Plasma cannon is a significantly more powerful weapon during this era.
We're talking 10+D10 damage here.
Anyway, this is the sort of thing I spend my Saturdays doing.
Presumably this unit was abandoned in favour of the Thunderhawk, even if the Thunderbolt was significantly bigger. As in it could carry 4 Land Raiders or equivalent, which would have made an epic scale one somewhere in the region of 15cm long (I say as if epic was consistent in scale).
My 3d model of the Thunderbolt Dropship. There are very few details on it, it's basically a cheese wedge with guns and an engine.
Original sketches of the Thunderbolt from White Dwarf 117.
Some art of what are presumably Thunderbolts, releasing drop-pods onto the battlefield. Also from White Dwarf 117.
Made myself a long-forgotten Thunderbolt Dropship from Epic. One of those 'never got a mini and was only drawn a couple of times and not particularly consistently' kinda deals.
Very basic details now since it's based on some very small sketches, but will keep adding detail until it looks less bad.
Shadowsun has been sold! everything else is still available! (Again, UK only)
If interested please DM! Got a few days left to be able to ship things before I fly out
Once I've had the opportunity to test print all the parts I'll update the Rhino Kibble pack with a bunch more little bits you probably lost over the years.
I might not be able to get away with putting the main hull online, but I can at least help people with their missing panels, y'know?
A close up of a 3d model of an old Warhammer 40,000 Rhino miniature, showing the gap between 2 parts
Although one actual reason was it meant I could put in the odd little wedge of nothingness between the main hull and the tracks the originals had (and is often left out of recreations) without having to worry about how it would be to print.
Just a few small things to add and I think I'll be done.
Okay, I reworked how my MK1 Rhino STL is assembled and, if I've done everything correctly, most of it should be interchangeable with parts from the original mini.
There was very little reason for me to do this other than to see if I could.
New short! It's on a guy you've seen before on the channel but this time, the format is much shorter.

Okay, there would have been a new short out by now, but Dan Olson just put up a new video and so I just lost an hour and 20 minutes.
You understand.
There is a bit on there but I tend to give the problem areas a quick coat or 2 of liquid greenstuff and that hides a lot of sins!
The machine spirit wants what the machine spirit wants. Best not to interrupt it.
I assume they work exactly how the Ultimatum Answerer from Duck Dodgers works.

Just noticed I'd made a typo when copying down a quote for a script. So it read: "The Great Bell on Terra tolls at the death of great herpes of the Imperium".
That should be *HEROES*.
Thank you!
I'm using an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 16K with ABS-like 3.0 resin. Slicer was Chitubox and I'm honestly just using the default settings for this (0.05mm layer thickness and 2.3 exposure time).
I am waaaay ahead of you hah.
Made the domed piece with the bolter attached for the Rhino model I just posted. Will throw that (amongst the other bits) into the Rhino Kibble set whenever I can test print it to make sure it works okay.
It is yes, but it's still the same gun a predator had on a turret (which was much, much thinner). And that had some lascannons too, so it feels undergunned compared to its contemporary.
No idea if this one will ever be released to the public since, even though I personally think it's fine to put this out there since you haven't been able to give GW money to buy one of these for a couple of decades, it might be flying too close to the sun.
Probably a project just for me.
All I need to do is make some of the optional parts (the alternate front and the front spikes, mostly).
Not sure whether I want to attempt to make the side rails or not since they just broke all the damn time on the originals anyway, so I don't even have them on any of my real Rhino minis.

Oh, whilst I'm talking about my adventures with making STLs of old minis... working on the Sabre meant I was most the way to making a Rhino anyway sooooooo...
The absurdity of what I've done is not lost on me, don't worry haha.
The rules for the Sabre, the pertinent part is: "The Sabre Tank Hunter carries no additional troops, It is armed with a single autocannon and a bolt gun, both designed to shoot straight ahead".
Oh! One fun fact about the Sabre that I didn't realise when I started this project: You know the giant fucking gun? You want to know what that is?
It's just an autocannon. No special rules or buffs. Kinda underwhelming, right?
Will probably run mine as a vindicator in modern games, to be honest.
You aren't wrong. It's a hell of a snoot!
And nah, I tried to make this a faithful recreation of the original conversion guide so the gun is just a big tube hah
The sabre nest to a couple of other minis based on the same chassis, although they are made from the official plastic kit.
I suppose it IS going into an army of Rogue Trader minis. It’d look out of place if something wasn’t a little wonky.
Oh and here it is with some real Rhino chassis vehicles if you were wondering how it looks compared.
Might just make the headlights as a separate piece like on the originals to completely remove the issue even if it does warp a bit.
It’s all part of the learning process I suppose! And at least it’s good enough to paint as I’d feel really wasteful throwing away this much resin.
A partially painted 3D printed recreation of a Sabre Tank Hunter mini from Warhammer 40k.
Been painting my 3D printed Sabre and it’s coming together pretty well. Am starting to notice more of the little errors in the print though. The slight wonkiness of the front lights due to shrinkage and warping of the resin is kinda annoying.
Ah well. Something to refine for later versions.
