But even after hitting the fare cap, any transfer shows as "Stored Value: $0.00," the same as a transfer after a $3.00 charge.

Doesn't tapping any non-physical OMNY card always result in a $3.00 pre-authorization charge, even with transfers, until it processes on the backend to determine transfer and fare cap status? I use a physical OMNY card, and there seems to be a lag of several minutes before the trip registers online.

MetroCard technology was obsolete, and the backend ran on OS/2. The problem is OMNY as a replacement is missing key features of MetroCard, from balance and transfer status after tapping, to unlimited time based passed (policy decision, not technology limited).

My final 30-day MetroCard ran out of time last week, and I've already not taken discretionary trips because of the weekly fare cap, and general disdain of OMNY.
