Now would be a great time to reconsider that 46% cut to NASAโs science budget for FY2027.

NASA's Artemis II Live Mission Coverage (Official Broadcast) 78,645,468 views Streamed 9 days ago
With the Artemis II Live Mission Coverage closed, it lasted 230 hours, 38 minutes, 28 seconds.
It had seventy-eight million views.
There are a handful of positions for different research projects (you have to click on one of the projects and scroll down to see the project descriptions).
I will be a co-advisor on project 4, happy to answer questions about it or the program in general.
Help me spread the word!

These are 1 year appointments at NASA Goddard (in Greenbelt Maryland). Besides working on awesome (biased) NASA science, the intention with these roles is to provide folks with research experience (as well as a full time salary) to bolster their resumes for future job/grad school applications.

About to say words that have been rarely said in the past few years: NASA is Hiring!
If you are, or know of anyone, in between undergrad and grad school (or still deciding if grad school is the right move) then consider applying to a NASA Goddard Post-Bac position!

[alt text from NASA] Earth sets at 6:41 p.m. EDT, April 6, 2026, over the Moonโs curved limb in this photo captured by the Artemis II crew during their journey around the far side of the Moon. Orientale basin is perched on the edge of the visible lunar surface. Hertzsprung Basin appears as two subtle concentric rings, which are interrupted by Vavilov, a younger crater superimposed over the older structure. The lines of indentations are secondary crater chains formed by ejecta from the massive impact that created Orientale. The dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime. On Earthโs day side, swirling clouds are visible over the Australia and Oceania region.
Because the Moon is tidally locked to the Earth, if you build your habitat on some plot of near-side regolith you can put the little Earth anywhere in the sky you want & itโll stay there, lazily meandering around just a little as the Moon wobbles in its orbit.
A view of Earthset from #Artemis II.

"Earthset" photo taken by the Artemis 2 astronauts showing a cratered lunar surface starting to overtake the crescent of Earth as it begins to set behind the lunar surface. Overlaid on the top of the image is text stating '"I have two Microsoft Outlooks, and neither of those are working" - Cmdr Reid Wiseman - Artemis II mission'
On a black background of space, a blue and white Earth just before 'setting' behind the Moon, in foreground, seen from Artemis II, 6 April 2026
Totality seen from lunar orbit, the Moon eclipses the Sun, revealing a view few humans have ever witnessed, a dark disc surrounded by a pale solar corona.

If you look closely you will see the thin shell of our Atmosphere. All the pollen that ever is or was, is contained in that shell.
2027 PBR just dropped. ๐งช๐ญ๐ช
NASA Science gets a 50% cut, again.
40 missions terminated.
I don't have anything else to say right now. I knew we'd have it again this year, but we *just* finished winning this fight for the 2026 budget.

I think each of us in academia knows people in our departments or fields who are horrible people and also know whoโs protecting them. These revelations should not be a surprise to any of us.

Let's do this.

I'll share this again for 2026 and for any new influx--well over 100 planetary scientists here on Bluesky.
Given <waves hands around> they may not necessarily be posting much about planetary science, but that's how it goes.
If you're a planetary scientist and want to be on the list, DM me!

RIP. "Sheeeeeeit" will live forever, but I'm also fond of him looking down at the Aeschylus book and still getting his name wrong. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcZI...

If you are organizing a #PlanetaryScience meeting, there is no reason to pay for a service to manage abstract submissions, registrations, and program management. We are offering the use of our Indico server to the planetary science community for free.

Lol, and let me be clear, lmao
Great news ๐ข๐ก๐ customers! Starting 12/31 @wmata.com is extending every other Yellow Line train to Greenbelt. That means more MD-DC-VA direct service & north of Mt Vernon Sq will have 4 min peak/6 min off peak service frequency. Continually improving Americaโs Metro System.

We have 526 scientists signed up for spring semester. We try to get that to about 1000 scientists before unleashing the teachers on the database. Wanna connect a class of kids with science this spring? Sign up!
