An employee written up for not "making rate" in her department the week her son died. The area manager and OPs manager told her they were sympathetic re her loss, but rate is rate.

An employee who had been taking care of her niece fired for rushing to the ER to be with her. Her immediate manager told her to go & he'd square the paperwork, but she was out of "personal time" and was fired. The HR rep said "it's not like it was her DAUGHTER." That rep was later promoted.

Evidence of a miscarriage in the ladies room; we later learned the employee went back to work, fearing reprisal/termination. She couldn't afford to lose the job.

Some things I saw working @ Amazon from 2001-2010

An employee taken out on a stretcher after suffering a cardiac incident was given an attendance infraction for leaving without approved sick time. If he would have had too many "incidents" resulting from this, he could have been fired.
