I highly recommend that everyone follow artists. If you do, your feed is filled with art every day. Real, original art. It's bonkers that you can even have this. Amazing. Undeniably cool.

And then support those artists, when you can, because that helps the delight continue.

As far as I know there is literally no reason for this, it is just an incredibly lucky coincidence that we get to enjoy for free

Analysis Finds That Google's AI Overviews Are Providing Misinformation at a Scale Possibly Unprecedented in the History of Human Civilization A new analysis commissioned by The New York Times suggests that Google's AI Overviews are wrong an astonishing percentage of the time.

Google’s AI Overviews are providing “tens of millions of wrong answers … every hour — and hundreds of thousands every minute.”

wow, i love the AI future!

This game deserves at least 1000 reviews... it's truly exceptional across the full spectrum of game design.

Mainly, it's just really really fun, clever/inventive, and expects the player to engage and develop themselves (ie no silly in-game "xp"; the human playing needs to level up their brains).

The fact that it's hard, but you still want to anyway, is how you know it's worth doing. It means you're learning, growing, exploring, discovering, building, or maybe even adding something to the world that wasn't there before: knowledge, beauty, community, or even new life.

great thread!

AND i want to add that making art is GOOD work

the act of making is GOOD work. the action, the verb, the process

the people that own the plagiarism machine, all they can see is that you can sell a made thing...so that's what they're selling

sell more things, without making anything

Here's a song I wrote ages ago about that time in the 2010s when people were really into 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams.

It's not often something you write gets more relevant the further away you get from writing it, but...

The handmade, human qualities of your work are more valuable than they've ever been. Don't doubt that for a second.

I was asked to give my thoughts on generative AI usage in games - here they are!

This really captures my childhood, and what it felt like to learn about computers—everything was so captivating and full of potential I could uncover! I would spend hours and hours just trying things and exploring. I loved it.
I miss the enthusiastic optimism I felt about tech back in those days :/

a sketch of a smartphone with tactile buttons for home/window/back, headphone jack, no AI BS, sim card thingy you can open with your nail, camera that doesn't cover the damn screen, and a 5 inch/127mm screen which is a reasonable size

I wouldn't say I'm massively into phones or anything but I sketched this out of frustration bc why are there no modern phones with these features, it would be so perfect and I'm mad the only ones are old and slow

Vindicated At Last In My Years-Long Loathing Of Grammarly | Defector I first learned about the AI writing assistant Grammarly nearly a decade ago, when their YouTube ads suddenly sprang into ubiquity, clinging to my precious videos like a swarm of spotted lanternflies....

I wrote about a company that had bad vibes from the jump

Don’t let mega-constellation-building billionaires steal your night sky Satellites are wonders of modern technology that have improved all of our lives. But having more than a million of them in orbit could destroy our view of the heavens and seriously damage our planet

Elon Musk has already started plans to launch a million satellites.

Yes. A MILLION.

This is a colossally bad idea, and it's not too late to make your voice heard. I explain everything:

Costco is a really popular subject for business-success case studies but I feel like business guys kinda lose interest when the upshot of the study is like "just operate with scrupulous integrity in all facets and levels of your business for four decades" and not some easy-to-fix gimmick

Satellite proposals threaten the night sky In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the agency responsible for authorizing satellite launches and operations…

The FCC just opened public comments on SpaceX's plan to launch a million satellites to do AI compute in space. Under the current proposal, an environmental review won't be required. Please consider submitting a public comment to oppose this damaging plan.

I'm sorry. As a technology writer, I'm supposed to be telling you that this bet will some day pay off, because one day we will have shoveled so many words into the word-guessing program that it wakes up and learns how to actually do the jobs it is failing spectacularly at today. This is a proposition akin to the idea that if we keep breeding horses to run faster and faster, one of them will give birth to a locomotive. Humans possess intelligence, and machines do not. The difference between a human and a word-guessing program isn't how many words the human knows.

I'm sorry. I know that when we talk about "digital sovereignty," we're obliged to talk about how we can build more data-centres that we can fill up with money-losing chips from American silicon monopolists in the hopes of destroying as many jobs as possible while blowing through our clean energy goals and enshittifying as much of our potable water as possible.

It's an honour to have been part of @indiecade.bsky.social both as attendees as well as award recipients -- it's an event that has contributed enormously to indie games as an industry, and even moreso as a community. Happy Anniversary, Indiecade!

writing poetry has given me so much experience making stuff no one is going to look at and no one thinks is really worth thinking about. I encourage everyone to work in discarded, "abdandoned", neglected, "low", "unimportant", "irrational" forms, media, etc.; it is liberating, educational, useful

Sometimes all you can do is make the world 0.0000000000001% less awful by being a good person and it feels very meaningless but it’s also the only thing that really matters
