The war on drugs has failed, just look at Mexico, so we need a different approach. One that's reasoned, constructive, protects the vulnerable, and reduces crime.
People will always do drugs and people will always pay for sex, so the best policy is to make it as safe and possible and take the money out of the hands of criminals. Legalised prostitution could be a new source of tax revenue, if that's important to you.
Following Portugal's lead seems to be a pretty good step given the positive results, unless you're less interested in helping and protecting people than just shouting 'drugs are bad' at people.
And legalised prostitution gets it off the streets and into safe spaces where there are protections.
