Ultimately, what Yorkshire needs is not mayors and a Leeds tram, but a regional government that can deliver a rail modernisation plan akin to what's being done in Wales.
Speed up Leeds to Sheffield. Make connections from Harrogate to Leeds more frequent. New stations in towns that don't have them.

Another solar generation record set today in Britain.
14,426 megawatts were being generated at 11.30 today, delivering 37% of GB’s electricity and contributing to a record low reliance on fossil fuels. Gas accounted for just 2% of electricity generation at that time.

This arrived today. A hard hitting but also hopeful zine from @marcdavenant.bsky.social. A fitting poem - The Voices, Raised - from @imcmillan.bsky.social.
The photographs are stunning, the text thought provoking.

Yes, you get a very clear sense when you arrive in Bradford that it was originally the wealthier and more successful of the two cities!
And some of that bleeds over into the Leeds district, e.g. stone rather than redbrick terraces in what was once the Aireborough district
But Bradford, on the other hand...
Trade-offs have in general been ignored - take for example the subject I know best, UK-EU relations, where the policy is closer economic ties as long as that doesn't upset the Home Office or Reform voters. A compromise that won't deliver much growth.
Shaykh Hamza Yusuf explores how Jane Austen’s moral clarity, subtle social critique, and focus on character formation offer a compelling response to the instability of modern life.

Poor article, but a good chance for some discourse spotting in the wild! Just a steady stream of clichéd complaints here, punctuated with occasional comments about 'infiltration' and 'creeping Americanese' 🙄

Mahmood actually arguing there is an 'element of racism' in criticising her migration policies is not a useful way of justifying or garnering support for controversial decisions that affect hundreds of thousands of people. It looks like an attempt to close off debate.
Germany just activated its largest ever solar installation — one farm, 1.5 million homes, zero carbon. The #CottbusSolarPark covers 3,500 hectares and produces 2.1 tw-hours annually, replacing two coal plants that operated on this same land until 2022. #SolarPower #ActOnClimate #Renewables

HEAD QUARTERS MORRIS TOWN 12TH MARCH 1777 Sir You are hereby required immediately to send me an exact return of your regiment, and to send all your recruits, who have had the small pox to join the Army. Those, who have not, are to be sent to Philadelphia, and put under the direction of the commanding officer there, who will have them inoculated. You are to leave a sufficient number of proper officers to carry on the recruiting service, who are to bring up their men as soon as they are ready. No pleas, of delay, on account of the dispersion of the officers can be admitted, as every commanding officer ought to know where his inferior officers are, and they what recruits they have, and where they are to be found. You are to remain at Philadelphia, to procure arms clothing &c., and send on, your Major to Camp, to receive your detachments. Your Lieut. Colonel is also to come on, as soon as circumstances will permit. I am Sir Your most humble servant Go: Washington George Washington wrote this letter to Lt. Colonel David Grier on March 12, 1777. In it, Washington instructs Grier to send new soldiers to Philadelphia so they could be inoculated for smallpox. Washington wanted to make sure that his troops were not affected by disease, and he believed that inoculation would help with that. So, just before this letter was written, Washington created a mandated system of inoculating his soldiers.

Chart shows annual heating bills for medium-sized home with an oil boiler (£1,476), an LPG boiler (£1,473) and a heat pump (£784), all at current energy prices. The heat pump is considerably cheaper to run, saving over £650
The UK government has announced £9,000 subsidies for households with oil and LPG boilers to get a heat pump.
This is seriously good deal for rural homes - not only does it lower the upfront cost, a mid-sized home could save over £650 a year by switching from oil to a heat pump at current prices...
Our EV is *so* much cheaper to run than its petrol predecessor. And it gives us access to an ultra-low night rate which we can also use to change our solar battery and run the heat pump for hot water. Significant upfront costs, I agree, but long-term savings
