becoming a habs fan wasn't on my 2026 bingo card and yet... here we are
As a kid who went to a mid-tier SLAC on scholarship, and then went to a good, but not Ivy, public university, I am always amazed at the fact that we don't talk about this kind of class/status/resource stratification. When I step onto campus at an Ivy, I feel ill-at ease. 1/4
yes! this is what I'm writing about. Thank you for these suggestions--have the microceleb/influencer/creator studies stuff already!
I'm working on a project about parasocial audience behaviours and how fic readers are breaching author-reader norms (e.g., treating a fic writer like a monetized content creator).
Oooh thank you! I'm looking for work that can speak to author-reviewer norms//parasocial audience behaviours. (e.g., what happens when audiences start treating fic writers like influencers or content creators. stuff like rating WIPs in comments, offering to pay writers, or threatening fic authors).
THIS LOOKS AWESOME! Thank you for the share!
FAN STUDIES FOLKS:
I'm looking for literature addressing cultural practices, rituals, rules, and norms in online fan fiction communities.

Excited for the Kalshi plugin, enabling punters to predict my calorie deficit for the week. Who needs biopolitics when you've got ✨futures✨?
Sylvia Wynter, still pretty sharp, turns out!
🚨 Public scholarship alert! 🚨
Have you seen prediction markets in the news? In the 18 months since prediction markets on elections were legalized in the U.S., it seems like Polymarket and Kalshi can't stop making news and making money.

listening to wolf parade feels a lot like running down a hill iykyk
Think bigger than theory and reading and arguing on the internet, think embodiment and art and different ways of living and moving through the world. Think sharpness and tenderness, interdependence and community.
Liberation for some is justice for none.
Today is the 36th anniversary of the Capitol Crawl and disabled people are still fighting for basic rights in a society that's actively working to undermine them, surrounded by systemic disablism.
(This is a corrected thread TY to the person who flagged that I said 26th, not 36th!)
Folks, I'm in a position where I could really use any work. I'm an academic who can teach film, media & communications, and a writer who covers tech, film, and politics. Editors, etc hire me to do anything in those realms. Keep me in mind for anything you think I could be good for!
ah thanks so much, Andy!
I would love that!!!! It will be a few years before it's out in the world, but hopefully we can chat then!
thank you so much!
So excited to be working on this fantastic project with @jessrauchberg.bsky.social!
thank you for everything, Kate! I'm so glad you are part of the Platform Hygiene journey!!!
Publishers Marketplace Deal Report Announcement for Platform Hygiene
very cool and exciting news: my debut book, PLATFORM HYGIENE, is now under contract with @dukepress.bsky.social!
My takeaway from the BAFTA incident is that those in charge of that broadcast at the BBC don't give a damn about any of us -- Black folks, disabled folks, folks who are both, the public.
Now we're on a third day of racist and ableist discourse.
Structural racism and ableism operating in tandem. 🤦🏾♀️🤬
thanks for thinking of me!!!

new year, old me!
for better or for worse, I'm trying my hand at professional content creation again on IG. (Especially after *finally* nuking my Twitter account.)
