Instead of an exam, students take on the role of either the prosecution or the defence, and fight for a verdict which favours their clients
What I learned:
• It builds deeper critical thinking and legal reasoning
• Students feel more engaged and empowered
• It mirrors real-world legal practice

Just wrapped up two incredible days at the University of Stirling’s annual Learning and Teaching Conference.
One of the highlights? Presenting my first ever conference poster.
It explored a new assessment method I introduced in my Law module at the International Study Centre:
⚖️ A mock trial.
I've been practically radio silent on here of late (it happens) but i've had at -least- four thoughts this week about developing an AI Literacy framework for students...thinking about ethical use, refocusing on the purpose of assessment...negotiating the want for a blanket ban?

Dear reader, this is today's energy
Have been searching all day for the best way to try and explain synthesising sources to my undergrads, and now we have lego...is this right?

Today's "brief" discussion of feudal property habits very quickly degenerated into a a 'discussion' about landlords and paying rent and maybe a smidge of socialism
Ooops?
Sorry, I'm out of the loop, are they up in arms over a Tie Fighter?!
Annual Leave starts today, I've got a reading pile about 20 high, and not a clue where to start 😂
So I am becoming increasingly convinced that the vast majority of educational responses to AI are letting students down... I'll probably write something about it, but that's this mornings #BusThought #EduSky
Was all going well till you blamed Max for who his partners dad is, he's nothing to do with Piquet Sr

Makes for a stunning photo though! I'm in the north east this weekend hopefully see some snow then (hopefully get trapped for a while 😂)
Also for those of you who have the misfortune of following me, this is approximately the level of depth I aspire to in my daily life
Please hold for more pertinent thoughts
I keep seeing other people's snow...I want snow :(

The Journal of Continental Philosophy has just published my latest article, “The Computational Search for Unity: Synthesis in Generative AI”.
I address the representational reality of LLMs through the philosophical concept of synthesis.

How are we teaching uni students to summarise these days?
I can’t find Beatrice Fazi on here yet, but until she gets here, her pretty dazzling new paper on synthesis in #generativeAI www.pdcnet.org/pdc/bvdb.nsf...
With apologies for the October hiatus, I wrote an entry in my newsletter reflecting on a queer literature course I had the chance to design, and on the lessons queer and trans history can teach us about refusing abandonment.
1) working up the courage to actually start writing anything
2) I've been thinking a lot about how to put students at the centre of the feedback process, especially international students in higher ed
I think our move basically forced me to be an adult haha, 2 mins from the gym, much more wandering out and about...its been lovely but I miss my pixel footballers! How's the coaching going?
It's a lovely place so far! I do feel sorry for anyone who's followed me for FM chat though hahah
Do we like cats here? This one has 3 legs, belongs to the house across the road, and regularly comes to inspect our house to ensure the heating is working and we have a sufficient supply of biscuits
My guyyyyyy 🥰🥰 how are you?!
January will mark 5 years of teaching...a deeply rewarding 5 years, all told! I feel like only now am I starting to really settle into a style and rhythm that i'm happy with, and yet every day these students surprise and amaze me with their resilience and drive (most of them)... long may it continue
Suppose I should say Hi...I'm Katy, I work in HE in Scotland and i'm fascinated by AI, Feedback and Assessment in general
