Does Australia's culture of remembrance need updating? - ABC listen As ANZAC Day approaches, the esteemed Australian military historian Peter Stanley asks whether Australia's remembrance of war reflects the complexion of our modern society.  In Stanley's view, we need...

I found David Marr’s conversation with historian Peter Stanley about how remembrance has changed in Australia overtime. From mourning by those who had lost loved ones in war, to some sort of weird patriotic celebration with a National War Memorial funded in part by arms companies.

Konrad Benjamin nails the root of the problem: to stop large industries from ripping us all off, politicians need to stop “going to work in the industries that they literally wrote the rules for”🔥
Rules that as Dr Denniss points out, see gas co’s “pay more in PR than PRRT”💥

ETTE-SCLUSIVE: Data exposes The Australian’s campaign against Dr Randa Abdel- Fattah A sweeping data investigation reveals what appears to be a sustained, coordinated media offensive by News Corp's The Australian targeting Palestinian-Egyptian academic and author Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah...

What I find esp. despicable about The Australian's obsessive campaign to ruin Randa Abdel-Fattah's career that it also manufactured the 'public outrage' pretext for this attack

The Oz ran 24 letters to the editor about Abdel-Fattah, cf. 5 letters to The Age & 3 to The Advertiser in the same period

Australian Values: Gout Gout, Simpson and the Nation’s Soul Australia is not and has never been a defined racial group. There is no racial purity and those who argue such are not its defenders.

Gout Gout runs 19.67 seconds — fastest Aussie ever, world record. A corner of the internet immediately asks: is he really Aussie?

John Simpson Kirkpatrick — ship deserter, Wobbly, revolutionary — never once been asked that question.

The difference isn’t birthplace

I’ve been trying to figure out why I’ve been obsessed with the Artemis II mission — more obsessed than I usually am with NASA stuff.

This is a remarkable judgment - but also to be expected when the legislature is pushing the courts in remarkable ways.

The Court struck the legislation down because the purpose of the law was to stop protest, which is incompatible with Aus system of democracy

Cowardly and racist: Paul Keating assails Angus Taylor’s migration policy The former prime minister has launched a scathing attack on Angus Taylor and the Coalition’s migration policy, saying it is racist and grounded in cowardice.

What every political leader should be saying about Angus' base racism that will doom his leadership and further poison the Liberal brand.

Amazing how she’s never provided empathy for the future opportunities for Indigenous criminal rehabilitation.
Did she identify what programs the deviate has undertaken? The statement of accountability and what he will do to provide penance?
Sweet fucken FUCK ALL I’m guessing.

Glad to see the Australian government on board. Massive milestone today with Bowen acknowledging EV growth is already offsetting the oil crisis. Increasing reserves while demand falls makes no sense.

Now for a solar carport mandate!

It is good that Norway taxes oil+gas. But it is extremely bad that we use that cash to help expand it, often in destructive ways and at great loss to ourselves.
