The cameras really need to only log plates if the person was actually speeding, or the govt. can just plug the data into a third-party tool and get all the juicy tracking data they want

I think the smart compromise is to have the cameras not be networked at all, and just be “dumb” image recognition plate readers without any other fancy machine learning tools

Cops gotta go out to the cameras to collect the data and then they can pull a list of people who speeded aggressively there

there's another part of this, which is that a lot of job categories are starting to get eliminated, and "retraining" to try to work in a new field almost never works at scale, so if your job is of the type that's getting vaporized, it can be very difficult to pivot
