Oh - I've lived there, and visited several times after that. There's really a lot to experience there, and I would have loved to experience that with my kids. But right now - not going to happen.
And I say that with a sad voice - there is a lot to see and experience in the US, but right now I don't see myself visiting the US again for at least 10 years. If my employer would ask me to visit I would even consider leaving that employment.

In Windows I'm fairly certain that there is an API that you can call to get that distance, but I could be wrong - it's been at least 15 years since I looked for those kinds of things.
