All of these sites have their own scenes and a set of popular genres. Outside of RR, scribblehub: inkitt, Ao3, wattpad, webnovel, spacebattles (forum). Some people just set up a medium/substack or a website to publish to. I would not recommend webnovel due to their contract system. Always read ToS.

the genre really just exists for primarily-english speaking authors that want to write things inspired by (or that basically are) xianxia/xuanhuan/shonen. It just happens to umbrella "everything popular on royal road" which includes a ton of litrpg.
The author mentioned that it is now skewing more F than M. From what I remember timing wise that was after more Tik Tok exposure and probably the printing rights deal.

If this is following the "mantasy" thread:
yep Id put the first bit of it in a mantasy bucket if I had to, but DCC pulled off a 50/50 M/F readership split for a reason. The web serial scenes I think we both have in mind are probably closer 90% M
I'm seeing the same threads. firstly +1 the web serial scene of progfan/litrpg/xianxia is already "mantasy" if anyone was looking for it. but I keep seeing bsky equate litrpg=DCC which is true but also throws people off of what these other stories actually are.
If the book doesn't have 10k years of documented history, hard worldbuilding, hard magic systems, supplemental encyclopedias, and a finished legal system, how will readers possibly be immersed? it would be like someone is just making it all up!!
when they stub it after going to kindle? those at least feel more like ending after Bran gets tossed
"no harem" is a common webnovel tag for litrpg, but in this case the main character is literally a tank. not a tank role in an rpg
favorite part about finding this work (Reborn as a Tank) was a spoiler tag included:
-No Harem or planned romance
I love this movie so much. apparently took 7 years to make, although I'm not sure if they started right after the "prelude" OVA or not
I've enjoyed a few picked out of Royal Road, but still need to give DCC a shot. I'm tapped into webnovel spaces more for progression/cultivation stuff, so it's hard to walk without tripping over 30 litRPGs.
meanwhile in litrpg land "check out my cool guy! he gets reincarnated as a magical tank then turns into a mech and fights kaijus!"
#LitRPG gotta be the best tag on this site as a feed. Half the posts go: "wow guys!! this book was really neat :D I love the talking cat!!". The other half are just this
I was just about to ask about where Malazan was on this spectrum, since it's next on my list.
I saw this on RS a while back lol. There is another where they are reincarnated as a tree, it went the distance to KU/Audible iirc
The discord server activity is almost entirely author talk, which sounds like what you'd want. Immersive Ink was shut down, but the rest are still up.
The difference for me is setting. Cultivators tend to be gutsy and self-interested by nature + fight over resources, which means conflict feels more natural and just easy to insert. Characters having a personal philosophy driving their power is fun too.
penny dreadfuls: they're just on the web now
I'm overdue for setting up a writing/reading bsky. Open to feed/starterpack reccs #booksky #fantasy #scifi #progressionfantasy #writingcommunity #horrorwriterschat #horrorsky
Will you have this on Royal Road as well?
