Despite tissue coming from 23 patients, the same four subtypes and their characteristic synaptic interactions were conserved within and across individuals. This suggests that increased diversity and subtype-specific interactions are general principles of human cortical organization.
Using multi-neuron patch-clamp, we observed a great heterogeneity of electrophysiological properties across neurons and identified 4 subtypes: SlowAP, FastAP, DoubSpk & LowRin. These subtypes exhibited distinct morphological features and specific connectivity rules.
🥳Excited to share our latest human multipatch paper, now out in @natneuro.nature.com
🧠 We studied the cellular and synaptic physiology of human L2–3 pyramidal neurons and identified subtype-specific local connectivity rules across individuals.

Amazing study by @fxmittermaier.bsky.social on analog signalling in human axons!
Axonal and synaptic mechanisms in the HUMAN neocortex that could underlie memory consolidation during slow-wave #sleep . Check out our latest research published today in Nature Communications ( @natureportfolio.bsky.social ). 🎉
