This series is so good!
I would love to see written summaries,
if anyone has taken time to do that.
I wanted to take notes as I listened, and if I listen another time at some point I will!

Most of us were taught a punitive interpretation of the Cross. But for the first 1000 years of the Church, Penal Substitution wasn’t the story. Salvation was liberation & victory, not satisfying divine wrath.
11 conversations that'll change how you view salvation:

Powerful thread!!! Especially for Good Friday and Easter, but always, of course.
Hebrews calls Jesus a pioneer (12:2), not a substitute.
He went ahead of us through suffering, empire, solidarity with the poor, and death — and came out the other side.
That's not a transaction. That's an invitation with a cost.
Preached this tonight:

Irenaeus (2nd c.): Jesus recapitulated all of human history — living faithfully where we failed, breaking sin's chain from within humanity.
Gregory of Nazianzus (4th c.): "That which he has not assumed, he has not healed."
Salvation = his entire life, birth to death. Not just the cross.
On Good Friday, the Western church has trained us to hear "It is finished" as: debt paid, case closed.
But tetelestai — the Greek — means a mission fully brought to completion.
The early church asked a better question: what was the mission? And the answer changes everything. 🧵
Tonight I'll be sharing for 7 Last Words at Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren this evening at 6 PM.
I'm speaking on "It Is Finished" & will explore the question: What exactly is "It"?
The answer is bigger & more liberating than the conventional western answer.
All are welcome. Come through.

For me #DEI can be a helpful strategy from inside an institution to move it towards greater diversity and belonging but it is not a substitute for the vital work of reparative justice, liberation, and empowerment for historically oppressed and exploited people.
A powerful reflection on the life of John Perkins from my brother @druhart.bsky.social. open.substack.com/pub/drewgiha...
In 2001, John Perkins told Black college students: don't flee your neighborhoods once you get your degree. Go back.
I was in that room. Here's how that one challenge shaped the next 25 years of my life.

Many Protestants collapsed Luther's context and Paul's together, training generations to see good works as optional or suspicious.
But Paul says we are created in Christ Jesus for good works. My new essay recovers what that means.

Heading home with very little sleep! The early wake-up is hitting hard, but it was worth it to spend time with friends and make new ones at the Ember Gathering. Now, time for a travel day back home. #ProfsOnAPlane
Don’t usually do back-to-back trips, but I’m Oakland bound & headed to the Ember Gathering to speak, reconnect with good friends, and maybe make some new ones from across the country. Cut the winter beard too…trying to step into spring. #ProfsOnAPlane
Heading home after a rich few days at AMBS in Elkhart. Grateful for the connections, the conversations, and the reception I received. #ProfsOnAPlane
Flying to Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, IN to kick off Pastors & Leaders Week. This year the theme is Resistance, Resilience, and Rest, and I’ve been tapped to deliver 2 lectures on resistance. Looking forward to reconnecting with lots of good people✊🏾 #ProfsOnAPlane
I'll be preaching at New Life Philly Church at 10 am this morning.
How to melt the ICE in your neighborhood
"A cold front will maintain the freeze. It takes more than a one-time exposure to the heat to get rid of the freeze. It must be a sustained and prolonged exposure for the long haul."

We know that when white people stand up for the rights of Black & Brown people, their whiteness won't protect them. In the eyes of white supremacists, they are race traitors and deserve what happens to them. Ask Andrew Goodman, Michael Schwerner, Viola Liuzzo, Jonathan Daniels, James Reeb, et al.
The fact that ICE has now murdered multiple white American citizens in #Minneapolis is unveiling that the same racialized state violence built to target Black & Brown people spills over to white people resisting the status quo. Black people have lived this our entire time in this land. #LinkArms
I was just supposed to follow clergy leaders as they did a pilgrimage from George Floyd Square to Renée Good’s memorial.
But then when we got back to the landing spot, we found out an observer had been attacked by ICE agents who had been tailing the religious leaders.
From me today in Minneapolis:
I am reading this now ☺️. Dr. Hart's voice, knowledge and experience in racial justice are so vital for this time.
