The Great Fire 1666 destroyed most of the old London inside the walls. It would have been impossible to rebuild in wood so brick or stone became standard.

I think @davidcrowther.bsky.social hits the sweet spot between dry academic history and dumbed down history, making The History of England podcasts always interesting, accessible and very informative 👏👏👏 Highly recommend.

1665, the "Year of Woes," saw:
The Great Plague, killing approx 100,000.
The start of the Second Anglo-Dutch War.
Economic Paralysis caused by plague and war leaving the Crown bankrupt.
The Great Drought.
Political Instability.
So 1666 had to be better, right?

Friedman was somewhat dismissive of the question about 'what will Trump do next' (re foreign interventions) including about Iran. Would be interesting to hear his views now the US with Israel have attacked Iran
George Friedman's argument is based on the premise that the middle powers could not rival US + China which seems odd to me but if you agree with the demise it's a well argued POV.
