On this day in 1976, Worlds of Fun introduced a coaster that would make a mark on thrill ride innovation, Screamroller, later known as Extremeroller. Built by Arrow, it originally opened as a sit-down ride before making history in 1983 as one of the first stand-up coasters.
50 years ago today, a legend was born. Screamin’ Eagle took flight in 1976 and set the standard for wooden coaster thrills. Here’s to five decades of airtime and speed!

Six Flags Great Adventure has announced Shoreline Pier, a new Boardwalk themed area opening late spring 2026 with five family rides and updated theming inspired by NJ piers. 🏖
Barrels O’ Fun will join Flying Scooters, Wave Swinger, Hypno Twister and a refurbished Super Roundup.
Wave Twister will be opening this weekend at Adventureland Long Island! 🌊 It's the first of its kind to open from RES Rides and we can't wait to ride it! 🌀
