The current rate of pay for research assistants and teaching assistants s is $17 per hour, which is far below Nova Scotia’s living wage of $27.60. Individual course instructors make about $5,600 per course which is $3,600 below the national average.

For SMU Part-Time Faculty, an important note: as we are waiting for the results from the ratification vote of the tentative agreement, we are for now at ten hours of strike pay (instead of twenty).

SMU's upcoming Wellness Week doesn't do what a good collective agreement will—address real material issues, like low pay and stress from late contracts. We need a fair contract for a healthy workplace, not #UnfairWork!
