On a similar note the Abney Park Airship Pirates game, while the game was kind of "meh" overall, had a character creation mechanic where everyone got the put 1 point in 3 skills from a list that was necessary for a running an airship crew. I've always though that was really cool for making a crew.

Definitely the combat stances in The One Ring, so much better than grid movement.
The other would be House creation from A Song of Ice and Fire. I'd love to apply a similar system in creating guilds, organisation, pirate crews, etc in other games.

Speaking as someone who has Trails as their favourite game series of all time... yeah, it's weird when you really think about it. I started with the Cold Steel saga, then went back to Sky afterwards. There's a lot of stuff that seems weird at first, then has the context explained later.
