4 blurry people stand in front of the camera on a street at night, all are holding cameras, one is mounted on a tripod. Spots of rain can be seen on the lens, the street lights shine bright illuminating everything, they flare in a star pattern
A white sign shows a silhouette of a man with a crossed out red circle. Below that in white text on red it reads "Danger No unauthorised access". Out of focus in the background is a modern train signal showing a red light.
A large block of flats can be seen in the distance through the arches on a large red brick railway bridge.
An image of a tree at night lit by a street light with a blurred zoom effect.
Since I've been getting back into regular photography again I figured I'd log my fave shots each month. My top 4 from January 2026 #Photography #Sheffield #Stockport
A 12 by 5 grid display of movie posters representing the films I've watched for the first time in 2025. Full list at https://letterboxd.com/doondoesdvd/year/2025/
2025 was an odd year for me in film watching. According to my @letterboxd.social stats I only saw 57 new films, 8 of which were at the cinema. Down from last year, though not the lowest. But the weird part is they're mostly front loaded to the early part of the year. I wonder what 2026 will bring.
Thinking about 2025 my initial thought it that it was not a good year. But when I think more there have been some amazing highlights! So a varied year of high highs and low lows I guess. Highlights including my Dnd group, a trip to Germany and probably most significantly joining @filmfam.co.uk
Writing HTML in Notepad
Finally untangled my personal domain email from my gmail account. Going back to controlling my email data myself and good old Thunderbird. Is nice!
The camera really doesn't do justice to how luminous the green in the flowers on the third was. That was one of my faves.
A man in orange hi-vis spray paints a text template on a wall.
A pot of bright orange paint sits on the floor
A small step ladder with spray paint cans on it stands in front of a wall which has just been painted with a gnome and a person and various other colours and shapes.
A man in black sprays an orange spray can to his side in preparation to continue painting the metal storage containers in front of him.
And some more.
A brightly multicoloured painted wall surrounds some steps going up and to the left middle and the turning right to the top.
The word "Castlegate" painted in bright colours on a black background. A man walks in front of it. Various buildings seen at the back.
A pink and green painting of giant flowers on the side of a building. A scissor life on the right with the painter standing next to it.
A giant white rose on the side of a building next to a large chimney. Looking up into a grey sky.
Walked around the Lick of Paint festival, so many cool new artworks! #sheffield #sheffieldstreetart #photography
Three large grey waste bins in a row, on a pavement, in front of a patch of grass. The closest one has it's lid open with bin bags showing over the rim and a couple of bag on the floor beside it. The other two have their lids closed.
Forever baffled by the fact that the bin closest to the building is always overflowing while the other two are half empty. Is it really that much further??!
2 sets of parallel tram tracks travel off in to the distance either side of the centre. Empty platforms on the left and the right. Electric lines above and the blue partly sky above that. Grass bank with trees on the far left and a wall painted with graffiti on the far right.
A blue/red tram drives across the Supertram bridge (a curved metal structure) in front of Park Hill flats (concrete with coloured panels).
A view down Fargate, a street in Sheffield, old buildings with shops in the ground floor line the street on either side. People are walking around. The street is open and pedestrianised
A view of Sheffield town hall in the sun under a partly cloudy blue sky.
And finally a few others around the town centre.
An old blue lamppost with 5 lanterns, one in the centre and four surrounding all with gold painted carved detail trim. Against a partly cloudy blue sky.
A close up of a blue/white flower in front of an out of focus stone wall.
A close up of a white/yellow daffodil against an out of focus background of various green plant life.
A close up of three bright yellow dandelions grow out of a growing out of a gap in a stone brick wall.
Then some more close up things.
A view of Sheffield city centre from a distance (Black bank park). The lower third is trees. The middle third is the buildings of the city. The upper third is a hazy blue sky.
A view towards Sheffield city centre looking through a standalone archway in Norfolk park. In the frame of doorway of the arch a person sits on a bench. The ground is grass, trees surround the picture and there are hill in the distance and a blue sky.
A view of Sheffield city centre from the Cholera Monument, which is a pointy tower seen on the right side, with city buildings in the distance.
A view of Sheffield city centre from South Street Park though a gap in some trees.
Upgraded my phone (to S25), took a walk to see what the camera is like. A thread. First some views from a distance. #Sheffield #Photography
A screenshot of a map (Google maps) showing most of England, some of Wales and some of Europe (France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany). On the map are multiple yellow squares with numbers inside indicating the number of photos I took in that particular location.
I'm super late this year but I finally finished tagging all my 2024 photos and can take a look at where I went based on the location of the photos I took.
A large group of trees lit by golden sunlight, reflecting in the still canal water in front of them. A brick wall to the left, and a railway bridge to the right. A muddy canal towpath on the right side leading off into the distance.
A view straight down a long straight section of a canal. Trees line the canal on either side on steep banks. A bridge crosses over the canal in the middle, which is also reflected in the water, another bridge can be seen in the distance. The towpath runs along the right side. A signpost in in the front right.
A view under a road bridge over a canal. Towpath on the left, brick wall on the right. The left also has graffiti. In the distance warehouses and trees line the canal and a footbridge crosses in the far distance.
The setting sun shines directly at the camera creating a lens flare. The view is across a canal going from bottom right to top left. The sun and the sky are reflected in the water as well as a lone wall with windows.
Realized it was finally light enough in the late afternoon for my first canal walk of the year! #UKCanals #Sheffield
Hi. I should re-read that series myself and see if it still holds up to the lofty position it holds in my brain. It's probably been 15 years since I read it at this point!!
January seemed to last for over 3 months. February on the other hand has been about a week!
I wasn't sure if I should connect my own domain when I first joined here, thought it might be confusing, but now I've seen plenty other people doing it I figured may as well. So now I'm just @slayweb.com without bsky social.
Ice around a bus shelter but clear on the carriageway.
In a truly pedestrian-friendly city, pavements would be gritted and cleared of ice as well as roads. It's much harder for people walking to the bus
A round 1/2 pint glass with the Star Trek delta symbol on the side containing Amber beer. Back-lit at the top by a red Christmas light and at the bottom by a green one. To the left is a small can labelled Star Trek Captain's Log session ipa.
Seeing the year out with one of my presents. The Captain's Log IPA. Set tastebuds to stunned lol
A 12x6 grid display of 65 movie posters representing the new films I have seen this year. The full list can be found at https://letterboxd.com/doondoesdvd/year/2024/
Been a bit of an average year for me. Including the number of new films I've seen. 65 in total and 25 of those in the cinema. Highlights that aren't part of a massive franchise, The Substance and Civil War. Thanks @letterboxd.social to helping me keep track.
A tree in the foreground on the right with a branch reaching across the top of the frame, in the middle distance a wall of bare trees. Through those trees you can see the ghostly shape of a tall block of flats obscured by fog.
A pathway between two sloped grassy banks leads towards an underpass tunnel. Young trees are planted in the banks. In the distance partially hidden by fog is a local shopping centre. You can see signs for a barbers, cash converters, a post office and a pub called The Blackstock.
A green bench in the foreground at the bottom in front of 2 blocks of flats which are both covered in green panelling. The one on the left has a red stripe. Behind those are bare trees. The sky is white due to fog obscuring the distance.
A view through some bare tree branches with water droplets hanging off them. More trees can by seen behind them and a foggy sky above.
It's been nice and atmospheric out today.
A canal runs through the picture top right to bottom left. Yellow tree leaves hang down from above. In the background a blue and red road bridge crosses the canal. Reflections of trees can be seen in the water.
A canal runs from the bottom of the frame vanishing off into the distance. The towpath covered in brown fallen leaves runs along the left side. A concrete bridge crosses at the top of the frame. Another bridge can be seen in the distance. Either side the banks are covered in trees and bushes with minimal green and yellow autumn coverage.
A swan swims in a canal in front of an old arched bridge which is reflecting in the water making an oval shape.
4 ducks swim in a canal in the foreground. Either side of the canal are moored narrow boats. On the left there are 2 painted red and blue. On the right is a white on and a blue one. In the distance a green painted bridge crosses the canal.
A rainy afternoon on Sheffield Canal #UKCanals
Maybe just a nice overview from Skye Edge? Or from Parkwood Springs?
A canal with a snow covered towpath in the foreground, trees on either side reflecting in the water. Sunset glow in the sky.
A canal with snow covered banks on both sides, foreground and background. Far bank lined with trees which are reflecting in the water.
A lone wall with broken windows on the bank of a canal reflecting in the water.
A lights in 3 windows of an old brick building reflecting the water of a canal beside it.
That's Sheffield & Tinsley canal. Here's a few more from that day.
A few bare trees on snow covered ground in direct sunlight under a blue sky.
A Swan in a canal, snow on the bank and tall grasses on the waters edge.
A hill covered in snow with a tarmac path up the left side with a white hand rail. Trees in the background and a blue sky
A view down a canal, towpath on the left with fallen leaves and some snow. Trees on either side. A footbridge in the distance over the canal and reflected in the water.
More people posting here, leads to me visiting more regularly, which makes me think I should post something. So here's some snow photos from last week.
