He was appointed Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur by the President of France in 2002 and had been an honorary member of the European Society for Paediatric Urology (ESPU) since 2019.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the many communities he served

Colleagues remember him for his keen intellect, unflagging curiosity, and generosity in sharing knowledge; patients remember him for restoring hope and quality of life.

He was Head of the Department of Paediatric Surgery at the University Hospital of Rouen, France.

His eponymous Mitrofanoff principle restored dignity and independence to children and adults with complex urological conditions.

As a mentor he combined exacting standards with kindness, inspiring trainees worldwide to pursue excellence and humane care.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Professor Paul Mitrofanoff on November 30, 2025, at the age of 90. A brilliant surgeon, devoted teacher, and compassionate advocate, Professor Mitrofanoff transformed the lives of countless patients through his pioneering work in CUD
