Yeah. That launch 360 is super snappy and smooth. A fully updated 360 in comparison is horrible to use. Night and day!

Yes and no. From the PS4 onward, they are technically a LOT more reliable than most of the older systems (many of which would fail often even while still on the market). So they did improve the physical boxes.

It's interesting how internet connectivity has basically ruined the experience of using older consoles to some degree. Booted up an Xbox One S today and it's so darn slow - just insanely bad. Up to date 360s and PS3s are slow too. Yet, you boot a PS2 or a GCN? Feels as snappy as ever.

Tools can be harmful. It’s not simply neutral.

It doesn't actually ask that, it's just asking which mode do you want to play...but the result of the choice IS, uh, interesting. 😶

That's always the answer people give, though, and it answers nothing. It's just this "Yeah, well, it's inevitable" and that's simply not good enough. Why stay away from "it is bad, how do we get rid of it"? That's saying "asbestos might be toxic but it's so useful and difficult to get rid of".

So who does this benefit?

TVs were high latency when they first shifted to flat panels but the decade has been pretty good and modern sets are EXTREMELY responsive. I don't think it'll be an issue. The game will be designed for it anyways.

We'll see. The pushback is SO fierce that I do think we're going to see a reckoning. I'm certainly hoping for that and more.
