I should life update you guys. idk how many people I told I applied last fall to a program to go work in Japan this year, and I finally got the results back- I'm an alternate, which means that while I'm not guaranteed to go yet, hopefully a position will open up for me soon 😭🙏

From what I understand, it's actually pretty helpful if you can focus mostly on being positive about what's going on in your life and what your goals are? Otherwise, you can end up accidentially building a personal echo chamber of negative thoughts 💔

Translators read to decide what’s important and what’s less important, then re-create what they’ve decided is important; the debates about whether to translate literally or for the overall sense, whether to domesticate a term or leave it foreign sounding, whether to translate rhymed and metered poetry with rhyme and meter, and all the rest are pointless, because – obviously – it depends.

Finally reading this great essay on what translators do and what language is! This part in particular hit home for me.
