so excited to read âthe portable feminist readerâ for course prep! @roxanegay.bsky.social
never not thinking about this scene from âwoman under the influenceâ: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj4v...
read this over 10 years ago so revisiting it now has been an experience. in any case, if anyone has any similar recommendations, let me know!
when i say âlove it,â i mean that iâm obsessed with janet malcolmâs book in a way that goes beyond loving and hating it (iâm a plathie, so obviously i have issues with how she writes about plath) but itâs just so good in a completely bonkers way.
cover of the silent woman by janet malcolm
this book is so unhinged and brilliant. i forgot how much i loved it.
i am SUCH a fan of this film (it's just delightful?) but also as a figure skater, i love how they did the hockey & ice skating animation!
watched the film 'inside out' for one of my classes and had my 1st year students read this wonderful essay from one of my grad profs online.ucpress.edu/fq/article/7...
I just wrote to all of my congressional representatives to plead them to support the NEH, for everyone, for public history, for scholarship, for teaching, for all of it. I used this widget: very easy, it has a template, and automatically looks up the emails of your representatives. p2a.co/DdtlGIT
facebook people you may know showing me my old analyst from 2015
be gentle with yourself and definitely celebrate! it's such a huge achievement!!!
today in this would only happen at an arts school: student let me know they were on voice rest for an important audition so they would not be able to talk during discussion
"Let's not take the soul-sucking path of sacrificing the most persecuted for that which we deem to be most popular. I know that there are transgender children right now looking out at this world and wondering if anyone is going to stand up for them and for their simple right to exist. Well, I am."
Thank you @petebuttigieg.bsky.social
i just want you all to know that i thought i had forgotten my teaching copy of 'the bluest eye' at home and panicked only to find it later that night in my bag.
when we're talking about the power of narrative, i'm constantly drawing connections to art's fundamental capacity to move us and how it's absolutely essential to understand the way language works across mediums and genres
for our upcoming peer review, i compared it to how you get constant critique and feedback in acting classes or film where you take the constructive criticism back to the drawing board where one is constantly leaving one's ego at the door in order to improve their craft
when i gave students a difficult theory reading for this week, i explained how it's similar to how in dance you get challenging choreography that seems impossibly complex at the time and you break it down and practice. you sit with the difficulty.
so much of teaching at an arts school is me translating every aspect of what we're doing in the humanities to its equivalent function in the school of dance, film, design + production, drama etc.
In light of some of the post #LegacyOnIce conversations happening right now, letâs remember the stories and the human beings whom we lost in the DC plane crash. I donât want us as a community to lose the plot

crying over sylvia plath getting the ick because this man did not like woolf and to the lighthouse. honestly this is grounds for divorce imo.
