The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.

And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.

Love this. Author Elizabeth Dejeans (1868-1928) learned to type by serving as her father's amanuensis and then gigging as a secretary. She found the process laborious at first, but grew to "abhor" the pen. The skill served her well when it came time to pitch her own writing.

When anyone from SCTV dies it’s like 30 people have died. Every character they created was as alive as anyone else you’ve ever met.

Tiny sign at the base of a brick wall that, until yesterday, held panels about the people enslaved by George Washington.

Videos Show How ICE Vehicle Stops Can Escalate to Shootings A WSJ visual investigation found that the Minneapolis ICE killing is one of 13 incidents where federal immigration agents have used deadly force against civilians in vehicles since July.

The WSJ found 13 similar cases. Thirteen. Makes it sound less like an accident than a strategy. "The Minneapolis shooting shares characteristics with others the Journal reviewed: Agents box in a vehicle, try to remove an individual, block attempts to flee, then fire." www.wsj.com/us-news/vide...

Saw Hamnet on the big screen today and I became Aunt Georgiana in Willa Cather’s “A Wagner Matinee,” weeping helplessly, cathartically, joyfully.
Sublime, truly.

How are these fits of presidential incontinence never covered as their own news events in NYT? Hours of sick hateful bile from the curdled joyless leader of the Christian nationalists sitting in the ruins of the tinsel trimmed White House he’s demolishing — seems like a story to me.

‘A revelation!’: how Edward Weston transformed bums, veg and egg slicers into sculpture – in pictures Moving from one avant garde movement to another during the 1920s, the American photographer’s work helps tell the story of the birth of modernism

If Santa doesn't put a ticket to Paris in my stocking, at least I have @theguardian.com's lovely sampling of MEP's Edward Weston exhibit. I esp ❤️ the modernist nude of Tina Modotti, who starred in the film adaptation of Elizabeth Dejeans' The Tiger's Coat in 1920. www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...

without birthright citizenship in the united states, you don't have a democracy and you don't have rule of law.

revoking birthright citizenship gives fascists free rein to purge the country of literally anyone they don't like. it opens the door to atrocities and mass murder. i am not exaggerating.

Iowa doesn't have enough OB-GYNs. Is the state's abortion ban part of the problem? Iowa ranks last among states for the number of OB-GYNS per capita. State legislators are trying to recruit more, but some doctors say the state's strict abortion ban is partially to blame.

The laws have put doctors under increasing pressure, complicating the standard medical treatments for miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, premature membrane rupture, and other pregnancy problems. These laws are driving much-needed doctors from certain states.

No matter how hard people try to convince us having empathy is wrong,

it is right.

No matter how hard people try to convince us that diversity is a weakness,

it is a strength.

No matter how hard people try to convince us that love is limited,

it is unlimited.
