I really need to get back into boxing… never been fitter in adulthood than when I was training and sparring

The left panel is titled AI - MASTER OF ENGINE & CREATION and features a sophisticated, human-like android robot with detailed internal circuits and a glowing brain. Floating text around the robot says - REWRITING GAME ENGINES with a small video screen, GENERATING REALISTIC VIDEO/IMAGES with code on a screen, and CONFIDENCE - 100%. The right panel is titled AI - FRONT-END CSS FAIL and shows a cluttered desk with a distressed small robot next to a frustrated human man pointing aggressively at a computer screen. The computer displays a chaotic webpage full of broken layout elements and a giant black void called a gaping hole. The small robot has a speech bubble that says - I'M DONE! THE FEATURE IS COMPLETE. Floating text phrases on the right side are - BESPOKE INTERACTION NIGHTMARE, CSS IS HARD, YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, CAN'T RENDER, LLM CAN'T MATH. The human has a mug with </> and nerdy.dev written on it.
Why does AI suck at front-end?
🗑️ trained on garbage
👀 it can't see
❓ it doesn't know why
🏞️ no environmental control
there's no human v20.2.1 to target. we're a LLM combinatorial explosion

Just wrote a wrapper component at work for this lifesaver today.
Easily one my most favourite DX boosts in Svelte. Also, @eirik.space is on Bluesky!
This React -> Web Components post by the MDN team touches on challenges and solutions I've seen dozens of times over frontend's lost decade. Kudos to them for the improvements in performance, and the bravery to tell the story in an unvarnished way:

What a welcome contrast to the Spectator’s usual stance 😀
Cool af 😎
I feel that the head of your 30-strong legal team – Sue Meigh LLM MA (Oxon) FML CBA – may find their niche in the same hallowed lexicon of legal reference as @privateeyenews.bsky.social's brief in the celebrated case of Arkell vs Pressdram
Other than that, no notes xx
My saddest etymological miss is that “mosaic” is apparently *not* a reference to the little pieces of stone that resulted from Moses smashing the tablets he brought down from Mt Sinai, but “perhaps from Greek mousa, a muse”
Aux ARMs mes braves!

As I discovered from elsewhere in the thread, the variation appears to be regional. TIL 😀
The lovely @robpalmer.bsky.social would be my go to in this case
Unusually for her, she hasn’t. All mouth and no trousers is the correct phrasing.
I love the brainless irony 😂
The fun in working on long-requested features like cqs or scope, is that there's no way to live up to the theoretical brilliance of CSS that will solve everything. Especially when everyone imagines something slightly different.
These features aren't revolutionary. They're merely useful.

And there I was thinking that chimeric revulsion had peaked with this…
Memes image of Aragorn and Theoden with undercuts and earrings saying "Chat, the beacon notification just hit. Gondor's asking for a carry" and "Say less."
Was feeling melancholy, but then I dug up Theoden with an undercut from my vault of memes

Happy Easter!!
The link failed to resolve, but I’d recognise that query string anywhere, so in effect you still got me.
Bravo 😂
I’m not convinced that creatives can use LLMs to architect secure, performant, accessible, maintainable systems. Prototypes? Sure. That’s the easy part.
In fact I’m confident that there will be a massive demand for engineers to rescue businesses from vibe-coded hell.
Speaking as a software engineer, can confirm on the coding front: improvements in the quality of LLMs since late last year mean that the productivity boost is now incredible.
The nuance is that you absolutely need to know what you’re doing for the boost to be valuable.
In light of recent empirical evidence:
Place @view-transition { navigation: auto } exclusively within a <style> element in the <head>.
Refrain from embedding it within external stylesheets, particularly not trailing vast expanses of CSS.
Chrome may otherwise disregard it intermittently.
I created a swift renderer for my incremental parser. True incremental parsing and generation on a server with true(ish) incremental rendering on the client.
Very relatable indeed. The French even have a phrase that captures this exactly: “l’apetit vie en mangeant” (“the appetite comes to life in eating“)
not an april fools joke: svelte is no longer just a web framework (or rather, won't be once we merge @paolo.ricciuti.me's magnum opus). have seen some extremely cool demos of this
