So like at what point are we gonna ask how many extrajudicial executions at sea it’s supposed to take before they’ve won the war on drugs? Because if they have to keep doing it, doesn’t seem like it’s working.

Automania 2000 (1963)
Automania 2000 (1963) YouTube video by Classic Movie Marathon

"Automania 2000," 1963, an Oscar-nominated animated short that satirizes America's automobile-obsessed, consumerist culture. A scientist builds absurd cars to satisfy "the public's ever-increasing demands for novelty & status consciousness, with predictable environmental consequences."

Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.

Bike lanes do take space away from drivers.
Why not get rid of sidewalks too, hell school zones really slow drivers down..get rid of schools! While we're at it i'm kind of tired of those pesky residential areas with their people and stop signs - no more homes! Nothing but roads and parking lots.

Welcome to the flooded future, Chicago. Brought to you by burning fossil fuels.

But we have the tools to change, and stop making the crisis worse - from heat pumps to ebikes, induction stoves to EVs, we don't need to do things the way we always have.

Thread on a fake story about Platner sieg heiling. He did NOT do this. Rightwingers drumming it up, tho, because Platner brings so much actual trash to the table that they know some will believe it. Which is a good reason not to support people w/ *any* Nazi trash. Not even just a li'l bit of Nazi!

All federal wind power R&D at the Department of Energy is $0.137 billion. So the government is paying 7x the amount it spends on all wind power R&D just for a fee to kill one wind project. Seems bad.

Why Yale’s term paper on what’s wrong with college gets a ‘D-’ | Will Bunch An Ivy League university's report on the loss of faith in higher ed ignores what really killed the American Dream of college.

That Yale report on what's wrong with U.S. college saw some trees (high cost, unfair admission, etc.) but missed the forest: the 60-year right-wing crusade to undermine higher ed, from slashing budgets to stifling speech

How to really fix college. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/yale...

I don’t think we talk nearly enough about the fact that corporations like Amazon, don’t pay a single cent to maintain the roads they use, the transportation system they use, the courts they use, they pay nothing for the infrastructure that is absolutely critical to their business.

Last session of the day at #Lifesavers2026

I moderated a very well attended session about e-bikes and participated in an interactive workshop (my role was mayor)

So, this is the first breakout session I've been able to post about - "Using Speed Safety Cameras to Protect Vulnerable Road Users"

2 days ago 5 1 1 0

This is such an important quote. If we slow down the streets and separate vulnerable road users in protected lanes on high-traffic roads

As e-bike crashes send an increasing number of people to the hospital, cities search for solutions Cities look to registration, regulation and infrastructure improvement to cut number of e-bike injuries and deaths

“When we think about e-bike crashes and deaths related to e-bikes, the vast majority are cars and trucks killing people on e-bikes as opposed to people on e-bikes injuring somebody else”

As Bolts has reported in the past, many cities nationwide have been changing their local election schedules to sync up with state or federal races.

Fast drivers have long tortured this Oakland neighborhood. Will new speed cameras help? Newly released data shows this stretch of road in Oakland has a high number of fast drivers, which isn’t new to the people who live nearby.

In diverse neighborhoods, speed cameras result in fines for speeders of many races. They also save lives – and the lives saved will belong to people of many different races:

"Between 2018 and 2022, Hegenberger Road saw over 200 crashes — 80% of the collision victims were Black or Hispanic..."

Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train.

"If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."

I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

Just because they got quieter about it doesn't make it okay.
