It was great to exchange updates with OBAMA-NEXT, BioAgora, the Knowledge Exchange Network for Marine Biodiversity, and MARCO-BOLO, and to see strong progress across marine biodiversity research — from fieldwork and eDNA to citizen science and policy dialogue.
Last week, our colleague Maria Azucena represented DiverSea at the annual meeting of our sister project OBAMA-NEXT.
Although we joined online, we stayed closely connected to the discussions and ongoing work.
Women make up less than one third of the world’s researchers — yet inclusive #STEM ecosystems are essential for better science and real-world impact.
Today we celebrate women shaping biodiversity science, innovation, and sustainability across #DiverSea and beyond.

Over an intensive 48-hour sprint, more than 50 participants — including developers, scientists, designers, entrepreneurs, students, and ocean enthusiasts — worked in multidisciplinary teams to develop realistic digital solutions addressing key marine and ocean challenges.
As part of the Science Festival “The Voice of the Ocean”, the #DiverSea AUEB team, under the umbrella of the ATHENA Research Center, partnered with the French Institute in Athens to co-organise an Ocean Hackathon dedicated to imagining concrete and innovative solutions to protect the Mediterranean
During the event, Res. Vahit Alan introduced the DiverSea project and its integrated approach to observation, mapping, monitoring, and prediction for the functional biodiversity of coastal seas. Discussions also explored the potential for future citizen science activities within marine res framework
DiverSea was presented at the Underwater Science and Technology Meeting (SBT 2025), hosted by Boğaziçi University, bringing together researchers and underwater science communities.
