3 years ago, I was in the Community of Leaders group and can say it had such a huge impact on how I lead - I recommend this to anyone who wants to be a more engaged and effective leader! Time well spent!
First human #H5N1 case of 2026 in #Cambodia: a 30-year-old man from Kampot province. Sequencing, virus isolation & animal investigations ongoing. Dead chicken at home before onset. Patient has since recovered. 🦠💉😷🐓🥼🔬🧪
Sequencing, contact tracing, and poultry investigations ongoing.
Not surprisingly, most adults healthcare-associated respiratory virus infections are immunocompromised and they account for the sickest patients. A key signal to better protect our most vulnerable patients.

But worth it for piece of mind.
It’s actually hard to get the vaccine - we got ours but it required pre-paying for the doses and having delays in getting them delivered to the pharmacy. Total cost $900 with GoodRx and 3 doses so takes time. Doable but expensive and takes a lot of effort to arrange (in my experience).
So happy to see this paper out after a lot of persistence from Shardul Rathod @hannahnam.bsky.social @ucirvine.bsky.social.
Over a 10 yr period, 6.6% of Flu cases, 12.2% of RSV cases, and 10.9% of PIV cases were Hosp-Acquired. Most in ICH.

Due to the USG Shutdown, I wasn’t able to attend or present @idweek.bsky.social. I was supposed to give the talk on top viral studies that will impact your practice. Here are the papers I was going to highlight:

Due to the US Government Shutdown, I will not be able to atted @IDWeek.bsky.social #IDWeek2025. I had worked on my 2 invited talks and so will share them.
My first talk was going to be about the epidemiology and clinical course of respiratory viral infections in the immunocompromised.
Included in the supplement is an important paper about application of antivirals in immunocompromised patients @mady247.bsky.social

Excited to see the “Advances in Influenza Therapeutics” supplement out in @jidjournal.bsky.social - led by Fred Hayden and Rich Whitley, this supplement reviews what we know about antivirals and how they should be used for influenza.

Excited to have this paper out! Demonstrates that the recipients of lung 🫁 tx for COVID-Associated Lung Injury (CALI) loose humoral protection and have unique cellular immune responses.
