Next, we investigated positive selection of driver mutations during spermatogenesis. This effect was uncovered and has been extensively characterised by the Wilkie and @gorielylab.bsky.social groups. A summary figure of theirs here [7/n]
Easily digestable article covering the new findings also out in New Scientist

Innovative and insightful publication in Nature from Matthew and Co. in Raheleh Rabari's group at the Sanger Institute. Driver mutations of selfish selection in older fathers at a higher level than previosuly thought.

Fantastic time at WIMM day 2025! Our "We Are All Mutants" team won 2nd place in the Public Engagement Awards for our high school genetics workshops. @sciencehans.bsky.social @genomics-ali.bsky.social @doublehelixdale.bsky.social
Big week in the lab! Our amazing PI, Anne Goriely, gave the Spinoza Lecture at Amsterdam UMC, such an honour! She was thrilled to be invited and enjoyed sharing her work on selfish mutations and disease with a great audience. Thanks to everyone at Amsterdam UMC for the warm welcome and great chats🙏🧬
Congratulations to @agoriely.bsky.social on being awarded the Spinoza chair by @amsterdamumc.bsky.social 🎉
In June, Prof Goriely will give her Spinoza lecture on how new genetic mutations arise in the testes, their increase in frequency as men age, and how they can lead to serious genetic diseases.
Last month, a team of researchers from @gorielylab.bsky.social led an interactive educational workshop titled “We Are All Mutants” for two biology classes at King George V College in Southport.

Proud to be supporting International Women's Day! Hear from our very own Anne Goriely and others on what it's like to be a women in science/academia. We have come a long way, but there is still progress to be made!

@sciencehans.bsky.social @genomics-ali.bsky.social @doublehelixdale.bsky.social great work from all involved!
A fantastic trip to King George V college in Southport for #RareDiseaseDay for our "We are all Mutants" workshop! Students discussed the criteria for inclusion of diseases in the newborn screening program & assessed the ethical dilemmas with whole genome sequencing. #Genomics @cpmoxford.bsky.social
Up now the Julian Wells Medalist Jozef Gecz, Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Adelaide #LorneGenome25
Delighted to speak at #lornegenome25 on using octopus genomes to date ice sheet collapse 🐙🧬❄️ @marine-omics.bsky.social
AG: Asking now what the cellular mechanisms are that are involved in selfish selection? #LorneGenome25
I have created a Bsky account just in time for #LorneGenome25 so that I can post from (and about) the meeting. I am very proud of the program that the Organising Committee has pulled together (www.lornegenome.org) and can't wait to see you all on Sunday! Looking forward to some science by the beach!
Now @rachel-horton.bsky.social on how images in articles and news might invite particular interpretations of #personalised medicine in genomics
Earlier this month, as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting career development, 9 postdocs from the MRC WIMM attended this 3-day EMBO Lab Leadership course.
Feedback from this course has been very positive ✅
Thank you to the @dunnschool.bsky.social for facilitating the course 🫶
NEW: @genomics-ali.bsky.social & @agoriely.bsky.social have been awarded funding for a new community engagement project, which will use theatre to explore public perception of a new form of genetic testing.
