One of the cool things about being overly online and reading too much news is that it becomes clear when a certain Story becomes The Thing. You watch in real time as a particular narrative emerges and gets repeated over and over until everyone goes, "Oh, it's always been that way."

This is one of those episodes where I feel like I’m nuts. It’s very obvious what is being done here and yet everyone plays along with it like it’s sincere and just organically happened.

Don't get me wrong: I'm relieved that this case is shaping up as either 8-1 or 7-2 against the Trump executive order. But the case is a gift to the Supreme Court. By rejecting an outlandish position, it will earn credibility as apolitical, even as the Overton window moves far to the right.
