Brilliant piece, something I’d never heard of but which Dean links to more modern spectacles.

The US far-right are determined to interfere and influence European and Irish elections. Here’s James Geoghegan and John Dallon, who portrayed themselves as ordinary farmers / contractors, hobnobbing with Kevin Posobiec, an American far-right influencer.

Delighted to speak with fellow LOI heads @gerrytastic.bsky.social and @macdarabueller.bsky.social and journalist @valerieflynn.bsky.social about League of Ireland history. Really cool piece up now.

I think one underrated way that childhood reading is good for boys is that so many kids authors are women and it gives them an early encounter with thinking women are cool and funny as well as the more stereotypically female coded traits they experience from family members

Assorted Haiku

Haiku #2511

Tourists wait in line
to enter Machu Picchu.
Oh, look! A high queue.

Haiku #564127

how dare you suggest
I have a short attention
spanish omelette

Limeraiku

There once was a young
limerick from Kew who turned
into a haiku.

The Constraints of Haiku

Tied up all night with
a haiku dominatrix
and her three-line whip.

Shakespearean Haiku

Shall I compare thee
To a summer’s day? Alright –
Thou art pretty hot.

How to Write a Haiku

The last line should flow
seamlessly from the first two –
hippopotamus.

It’s International Haiku Day apparently and so for today’s poetry offering, here are a few assorted haiku.

Jay. Sus.

If you don’t already know, Sitka plantations are timber farms, nothing more. They are beyond dreadful for biodiversity and wildlife.

This seems to be v weird propaganda.

“The best Pat’s ever.”

We chat about the history-making 1947/48 Saints in the new episode of the History St Pat’s Pod. Victors over LOI giants Shels and Bohs, LSL Division 1 champs, Leinster Senior Cup and FAI Intermediate Cup winners, and semi-finalists in their inaugural FAI Senior Cup campaign.

I've noticed on so many Instagram posts you'll see a racist comment at the very top. When you click into the account, it has no posts, friends, or followers. Patently a bot army is gaming it.

Well done Eamonn. Caught some of it and hope to catch up on the rest. You articulated very well the need for more social housing. Keep on keeping on. Cmon the Saints and, to a lesser extent, the Bit o’Red.

I thought all it would take to end the protests was a meeting with gov?

Now it seems it will also take:

-oil & gas exploration off west coast

-Abolition of carbon tax

-Price caps on fuel

-Wider undefined cost of living supports

…and as of this morning, bringing down the government

Things are going to get really bad, and I don't think media, after years of both-sidesing everything, are really prepared to cover a crisis which is literally one guy's fault

A friendly reminder that the Irish Times has chosen to platform hard-right controversialists again and again - the direction is very clear. The best thing you can do for yourself is to cancel your subscription.

RTE are gas all the same. At no stage tonight did Sligo go down to ten men. Not through a sending off nor an injury. The match report is by an experienced journo and makes no reference to it. An AI hallucination?

Still up 90 mins later!

"Remote working is in place already" almost everyone I know is being forced back into the office multiple days a week. The government love to half ass a piece of toothless legislation and then say "well what else could we possibly do".

Do the government know they're in charge of the country?
