📯 New Inkling blog post on the recently updated CIBSE weather files.
Keen to hear whether you have observed anything similar. Have we lost sight of urban heat islands, or are we better served by weather data that represents wider rural areas?

We model many aspects of building design in minute detail, why aren't we giving the same attention to how we (dynamic) model air tightness? Read our latest Inkling blog discussing this and how we might improve.

We had our Inkling Christmas outing yesterday including a very fabulous lunch at Honey and Co. Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas and looking forward to more fun and building physics in 2025!
🎄 Inkling are again supporting the CRASH - Construction Industry's Charity Christmas appeal.
We will be closed for the Christmas period from 23rd Dec to 3rd Jan, but will back raring to build those dynamic thermal models in the new year. 🎄

Some of my favourite portraits from November. Did your favourite make my list?
Last week I was asked to speak at an Association of Noise Consultants event launching their new Approved Document O Noise Guide.
It's great that acousticians and thermal modellers are working more closely on homes that are comfortable for summer heat AND noise levels.

One of our more important Nesta reports out this morning: on why we desperately need to reform levies on energy bills.
Will thread on this in a bit, but do get started on the chart-tastic report here if you have time

I haven't made one of these for a while, so here's a heatmap that shows the monthly global temperature anomaly for 1880–2024.
This shows the difference between the average temperature in each month and the 20th century average for that month.

Image description: This poem is presented in the form an excel spreadsheet, with words in each cell. The line ‘Our cells shall merge themselves together’ is in a longer merged cell, and there are filter arrows on the line ‘Remove this filter from my heart’. Love Excels Let's spread ourselves on sheets of love, and turn our data into poetry. Our cells shall merge themselves together as you wrap your text around me. Our sum is greater than our parts, let's crunch our figures without compunction. Remove this filter from my heart, you give me form and function. We shall frolic among the formulae, pivot our tables now and often. I will total all your rows and you can add my column. Brian Bilston
Today’s poem is called ‘Love Excels’.
I absolutely love this! @ageingbetter.bsky.social have a *huge* image library of free age-positive images of older people - ie, not looking feeble, sad and helpless www.agewithoutlimits.org/image-library
Everyone knows that Isaac Newton discovered the law of gravity, that Charles Darwin discovered evolution by natural selection, even that Albert Einstein discovered relativity. But how many people know that Cecilia Payne discovered the composition of the Universe?
Here's our Inkling take on the new Net Zero Carbon Building Standard pilot that came out recently:

I got to visit the Energy House 2.0 facility at the University of Salford at the end of September. It was really cool - here's my blog about it:

The much anticipated Pilot Version of the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard was published on 24th September 2024. Here's our Inkling take:

Me too. Can we sprinkle birdseed, or better, biscuits to lure him here?
I had the same initial response, but it's what they are quoting on BRFC certificates. 🤷

Check out this lovely article about us in the CIBSE Journal this month. :)

We (Inkling) don’t think it is well understood that there two different ways in which glazing g-values are being specified. We hope this blog will help draw attention to this issue and reduce the risk of inadvertent errors creeping into modelling assessments.

This looks fabulous. I hope my next move will be into a similar Passivhaus community - are there any in London?
We had our pictures taken!
