Andddd finally submitted talks to CaGIS and NACIS conferences 👀👀
"Cartographic Expertise as a Framework for Best Practices for Geospatial AI Tooling" 😉
Hope they get accepted, and hope to see you 👀
Because I will stand on my “cartography matters across history and tech shifts” soapbox forever

DC folk – TOMORROW – I'm (map prints) partnering with Studio 6101 (maps, painted journals) and Pewee Press (bird prints!) to do a good ol' fashioned backyard art market.
Stop by if you're in the area!
Are you in DC? Come to the map market tomorrow!!
Come hang with cartos and buy some maps and enjoy the weather!

as PROMISED, I’m working on sharing more info this year… dusting off my YouTube. Will start writing more blog posts and tutorials.
And #creativeCarto will still be relaunching :))

Also @wmata.com have y'all considered building an interactive map of all of this and/or tying in this information into pop-ups per bus route, and adding the snow detours into the interactive map when they are relevant?
If you send me the GIS data I am happy to do some test examples... 👀
2/2 @wmata.com in reviewing, I see that that is "Regular Service" Status that ALSO has "No Detour". So, does that mean in my bus route that is "Regular Service" , when there is a PDF, IS it in fact that the Regular Service is still for the Detour route??
Thank you
Sorry another question @wmata.com so, my bus route is similar to the example below, today it says "Regular Service" again (yay!) but then it says the Detour PDF still, which according to what you said, that is JUST relevant for if the Status is labeled "Snow Detour"
But then in reviewing, ... 1/2
But…. Want to ask all the same! Just in case :)
Hi @wmata.com can you clarify please
I am ASSUMING that my bus route isn’t running if it says “Temporarily Suspended” but then I am confused that there is a Detour map (PDF).
Is the Detour map PDF *only* relevant for the bus Status that is labeled “Snow Detour”?
Logically that makes sense..
FOR ANYONE in DC some useful links/info:

Lost keys, now found
I lost my keys last week on the way to work. I have too many sidewalks and public transit transitions to believe I’d find them again (did report them missing to WMATA).
My morning bus driver saved my keys for me, he saw me drop them on the sidewalk when I left the bus to go to the metro 😭😭
🥺
Also shout out to finding out the author is also from WI!
My parents gifted me this book for Christmas and I know so many will appreciate knowing it exists, so just wanted to share it
and especially since I know how much people love the LOTR maps from the many convos that were had after from my many talks about old maps / recreating aesthetics /etc heh
Wall decor - originally a sleeping bag - in the shape of a converse shoe.
Wall decor in the shape of an eyeball with trailing veins. The eyeball is like a mini rug, made from tufted material. The trailing veins are pink and red and are braided threads
In the spirit of posting here more I’m going to truly post on here like Twitter so sometimes maps, often life..
Look at these amazing pieces that I got in Madison when I was gone for Xmas!
1) 80s kid’s sleeping bag turned wall art (YES CONVERSE)
2) amazing tapestry eye art by local Madison artist
MORE SOOOOOON
Excited for a 2026 where I finally have the energy to do more things again 🥰
as a person. And in my career. And as always, I believe it’s important to give back in the same way I was supported, plus I looovvve being inspired by and learning from everyone else too 😍🥰
For @nacis.bsky.social attendees… maybe a little monthly NACIS vibes 🥺
I’ve wanted to do this - both relaunch #creativeCarto for community connection 🥰 and to be inspired and learn from all of you too 😍, but also because I really have wanted to be like so many others in geospatial who freely share information regularly
Both of these things had such an impact on me
2) teaching concepts that are broken down so that they are actually easy to bring into your work (as I always want to do 😌) - especially those centered around cartography
I have ENDLESS conference talk ideas and not enough conferences annually to share all the info! Hahaha
The relaunch I suppose will be a rebrand too. It’ll still be the same wonderful community centered hashtag where we can check in with each other virtually and chat, but I’m also going to start releasing educational cartography and GIS videos ✨ 1) sharing how to do many a thing, practical tips and..
Ohhh two New Year’s resolutions:
1) be better at checking BlueSky 😭 my ADHD brain paths still need rerouting …
2) relaunch #creativeCarto in January - hoping to do it! This is my 1st time also presenting at Esri FedGIS in DC so will depend on the time … but this will for sure happen next year 👀
After months, I finally remembered to put this print on my store page, so that people know where to look if they want a charmingly distressing world map.

And if you'll be at #NACIS2025 in Louisville, you can see it in person and deface it with dry erase markers.
