😂 This is the same reaction I had when I saw your name listed for a panel discussion at JHU! And then I audibly groaned (at myself) when I realized I would be out of town.

Do it! You’d (maybe) be surprised how desirable your tech skills are/will be as libraries, archives, and museums transition into more digital environments and towards information management over records management. And some jobs will offer tuition remission or reimbursement, so could be a win/win.

“Don’t tread on me,” except when it’s about giving benefits to low income people living in food deserts surrounded by ultra-processed food options, with limited public transportation options and ever-increasing inflation. Then they want you to tread all over and shame them for eating a doughnut.

DigitalKoans – What Is the Sound of One E-Print Downloading?

I waited 8 years post-undergrad and managed to get archival jobs without it, so I always encourage people to apply to positions to get some experience and be sure it’s what you *really* want. With your experience, you’d qualify for plenty of tech-related jobs digital-scholarship.org/digitalkoans/

So many thoughts! And yeah, Black librarians are (unfortunately) a rarity, and one of the reasons I decided to get my MLIS—another being the limitations of trying to get positions in libraries/archives without a Master’s. But with web dev experience, you’d probably be an asset even without an MLIS!

No big deal, just me casually running into my favorite and Baltimore’s best first grade teacher, MRS. NONA PORTER! I look terrible and she hasn’t aged a day.

Normal Rockwell - THAT’S IT. THERE WE GO. America. War. More America.

Also, who did those little Precious Moments figurines that were big in the 90s?

Rockwell and Precious Moments: DEI free, bland as hell.

Jackson Pollock - ugh, no—too abstract

Andy Warhol - GOD no, haven’t you seen his style? His hair? Don’t you know who he was friends with?!

Jeff Koons - …maybe? Is he mocking us?

Jean-Michel Basquiat - What the fuck do you think? Of course not. You know why.

I genuinely don’t understand how museums like the Museum of the Americas can exist if they allow this exhibition to be cancelled. Even a list of American men artists barely make the cut.

Edward Hopper - too… “urban”

Man Ray - too surrealist, too Jewish (and he left for Paris, so he’s a traitor)

Show on Artists of African Descent Loses Funding Amid Trump DEI Crackdown The exhibition at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, DC, would have featured works by Afro-Latino, Caribbean, and African American artists.

The worst thing about this form of censorship and public erasure is that it exposes institutional priorities that are wholly anathema to their stated missions and ethics.

This would have been an amazing exhibition, and this is a pathetic concession to tyranny.

Update: thought it was the sequel, turns out it’s the first and I just assumed it was the sequel because it’s so bad.

Thank you! I don’t mind jury duty, but I think this is going to be a slow day. The guessing game of 10 minutes of military sounds and the bluish tint of the tv when the screen came to life were the liveliest moments so far.

Jury duty movie: Avatar 2, which took me about 15 minutes to figure out because the screen wasn’t on (but the sound was) for the first 10 minutes.

Where to reel in Baltimore’s delicious fish sandwiches As a seafood city, it’s only right that Baltimore has some fish sandwich gems.

Jasmine Vaughn-Hall *did* mention Neopol (✅), but *didn’t* mention Sal & Sons (also ✅ because that place is a local treasure with some of the best, most affordable seafood in Baltimore and it must remain a unpublicized not-so-secret spot) www.thebaltimorebanner.com/culture/thin...

It's really dystopian to see how digitizing everything, which was supposed to keep records safe, is instead being used to quickly purge information. We should have known I guess, but cripes.
