Glad to see @snapcoalition.org member Emily Yao teaching a new SNAP Science Policy 101 course module!
These will be publicly available open-access #SciPol modules on topics such as #SciComm, how the government works, science diplomacy, and others!
Hey hey, scientist mentors! Don't forget to submit your abstracts for #Botany2026! We would love to see you there!
I'm on the train back to DC – I call on all my colleagues to come back, too.
Congress must vote to end this war IMMEDIATELY.
A black and white photo of Katherine Johnson, the "Hidden Figure" that sent man into space
A photo of Vanessa Wyche, director of the Johnson Space Center and NASA's highest ranking civil service member
Let it be known that Katherine Johnson was the reason for the first astronauts in space.
And now Vanessa Wyche, head of the Johnson Space Center and NASA's highest ranking civil servant, is the responsible for the longest manned space flight in history
🚨 NSF is already quietly eliminating the SBE Directorate, despite Congress’ mandate that NSF support the behavioral & social sciences.
Steps to counter this are in motion.
If you
- have an SBE proposal under review
- serve on an SBE grant panel

Yeah, I am so mad I wasted so much of my precious free time trying to get that turkey elected.
Excellent piece by @snapcoalition.org member Amanda Finn explaining the toll and harm of anti-DEI policies in #academia, particularly on #ECRs and people of color.

So the White House basically told the Pope to go fuck himself and that it could bomb and destroy who it wants?

The image is split into two sections. The left side features a quote on funding priorities by Sudip S. Parikh, AAAS CEO, with a small photo of the person below. The U.S. Capitol building is in the background. The right side shows a bar chart titled "Federal R&D FY26 + FY27 Appropriations in Billions." It compares requested and enacted funding amounts for NIH, NSF, DOE, and NASA in 2026 and 2027. Bars are color-coded to distinguish between 2026 requests, 2027 requests, and 2026 enacted law.
The U.S. administration released the FY 2027 Budget Request this morning, proposing deep cuts to science funding once again. While there are similarities in the proposed cuts between FY26 and FY27, the final FY26 appropriations show the impact of advocacy in action.
Looks like #ScienceAdvocacy still matters for 2026
(jokes on you - it ALWAYS matters, but it’d be cool if the circumstances weren’t as dire 😖🫠)
This seriously could not be more timely. Give it a read.
Whereas governments once used ad hoc measures to suppress online speech, today, states around the world have systematized censorship, creating durable systems of control. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

Under this new Florida law, people who lack easy access to a passport or birth certificate, like older Black voters who grew up in the Jim Crow South and recently naturalized citizens, could face issues voting.
We're suing Florida to defend our right to vote.

Stop what you're doing & go donate to your local public library. Libraries are lifelines for so many people + incredible resources we should not take for granted!
Also, out of curiosity, I just used this tool and found there are FIFTEEN libraries within 25 miles of me.

When CCL Bozeman noticed a major lack of snow this season, they got creative with a public display of homemade snow people. Their efforts earned them a segment on two local TV channels!

Trump’s limits on birthright citizenship would plunge the country into an “unclear, contingent, and chaotic experiment in exclusion.”
And, he cannot, thanks in part to Marco Rubio.
The 2024 Defense Authorization Act prevents a unilateral presidential withdrawal from NATO without 2/3 approval by the Senate or an act of Congress. The law was authored by Sen Tim Kaine and then Senator, now Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
