The US has manufactured its dependence on oil, bulldozed entire communities for it, and now the President is illegally invading Venezuela for oil.

Watching this @kelseyhuse.com video and feeling old like "bAcK iN mY dAy wE ToOk tHe bUs!" But genuinely was I just unaware that this has always been a problem because I was a child? Was it just because I went to a well funded school? Has there been a significant change in funding school buses? All?

That’s the case for this school - students are coming from all over, very far distances that don’t make sense for walking, biking, or bus routes that would be efficient at all

Where else should I look at PhD programs?
My area of interest is transportation, specifically highway and road reduction, researching the economic, safety/health, and cultural factors.

The cover of “If You Want To WIn, You’ve Got To Fight: A Guide To Effective Transportation Advocacy” by Carter Lavin. The words “If you want to win” are in all caps, hunter green blocky font that takes up half the page in the upper left-hand corner. The words “You’ve Got to Fight” are a burnt orange of the same size and font. The words connect diagonally across the page. The words “A Guide to effective transportation advocacy” is in black, in smaller font nestled between the block of larger text. Carter’s name is in the lower left corner in black. Behind the words is a stylized, fictionalized metro map that takes up most of the page. The metro map is complex, multi-colored, showing potential expansion plans, transfer stations etc. The book cover background is an off-white. Roughly 6 inches wide, 9 inches tall.

TODAY is publication day for my first book! If You Want to Win, You’ve Got to Fight: A Guide To Effective Transportation Advocacy is a practical guide for people who want to make #transit, #bike, and street safety changes in their community

Federal, state, and local spending on transportation infrastructure.

Federal, state, and local spending on transportation infrastructure.

State and local spending on transportation infrastructure, by type.

State and local spending on transportation infrastructure, by type.

After the law went into effect, we find that it produced a major boost in spending on streets/highway-related investment, adjusted for inflation.

But spending on non-streets/highway investment, like rail transit, flatlined. States & cities *reduced* spending on rail transit after the law passed.

I really thought Boring Company was gonna try to do business in Memphis (maybe they still are) , because:

1. We already have a tunnel from the airport
2. Saw one of their employees on bumble one time, meaning they are physically here.
3. XAI is here already

Nashville is a bigger market tho ig

Letting People Move - Climate and Community Institute Transportation policy represents a key tool to address both the cost of living and climate crises. In the United States, the shortcomings of today’s transportation system …

What’s the best way to spend $1 billion for transportation?

Our latest report shows the positive impacts of every $1 billion shifted from highways to transit and identifies key policy levers to shift transportation investments away from highway spending.

I’ve noticed that often people say “safety” when they really mean “possibly damaging my car because there’s more things I could hit from not paying attention and driving at the same speeds”

A moving truck with its end blocking a protected bike lane

Guy in the truck: “I’m sorry”
Me carrying my bike around: “you’re not sorry, you’re just sorry you got caught!!!” (Huge smile and laughing)

Trying out saying what I mean but in a super nice tone just to confuse ppl.

I have exhausted my Memphis dating options and now my strategy is to slide into the DMs of guys who live in Chicago and Nashville and convince them to move here.

I forgot to post this here.

Anyway, please pay attention to xAI (and polluters in general) in Memphis. We deserve clean air. South Memphis ESPECIALLY deserves clean air - they’ve been dealing with polluters, cancer, asthma, for decades.

I’ve returned from Sicily back to Memphis. I was on a 12-day city planning research project in San Berillo.

There are many similarities between that neighborhood and Memphis.

One thing that keeps jumping out to me: we must solve poverty. And city planners cannot solve this alone.

Up against Musk's Colossus supercomputer, a Memphis neighborhood fights for clean air xAI says it’s working collaboratively with local officials, but Boxtown residents remain wary.

Oligarchs prey on the weak and vulnerable. They prey on the communities to normalize their doctrines of greed.

Kudos to this community
