That the political system has been so impotent for so long on both positive and negative behaviors inoculated the American public as to the consequences of elections, and - in that way - the system was not in service to them. I've seen this take multiple times and generally agree. I was disappointed in 2017 seeing Womens Marchers fist-bumping cops, because it showed we weren't a threat. I still go, because numbers are important. But I know it isn't changing anything by itself.

Back in September 2016 I was chatting with a Liberian Lyft driver in Dallas and he said that Americans have no idea how bad things can get when the government is truly corrupt. I think about that conversation a lot.
Maybe creating a Bluesky account was a mistake. At first I was all "Woo! The gang's back together!", but it's actually weird that the vibe from 5+ years ago has been ported over unchanged.
