💭 gee I wonder what else has happened since 2007
I could see a dem congress and an addled trump actually doing this, like the brief 2020-2021 covid social democracy we lived
For decades, we've been sold the lie that empire advances freedom and keeps us safe. Instead, it's led to violence, instability and a ruling class that reaps the profits but never pays the bill.
Today we're releasing our vision for a different foreign policy: clairevaldezforcongress.com/nowar
THIS WEEK Nobody has done more over the years to cement the global consensus that humans are causing climate change than the unpaid Nobel prize-winning army of scientists who make up the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). But, at the IPCC’s latest meeting in Bangkok last week, its chair Jim Skea warned that work is under threat from a shortage of funding. Without more donations or cost cuts, he said the organisation would run out of money by 2028. To stay afloat, the IPCC’s Geneva-based secretariat has appealed to governments for financial support and suggested various budget cuts that could be made - most of which would put up barriers between climate science and the public, by not translating reports or media training scientists for example. The sums involved are tiny by government standards, with the IPCC getting just $5-10m a year. That’s about what the US’s War Department has been found to spend on lobster tail for military dinners in just one month. Surely climate science would be a better use of taxpayer money?
The IPCC will run out of funding by 2028 without more cash. That's bad enough on its own but like everything else a funding crunch will probably result in a push towards replacing science and communication with generative AI to 'save money'.

Reuters: Pope Leo said on Sunday that God rejects the prayers of leaders who start wars and have "hands full of blood", in unusually forceful remarks as the Iran war entered its second month.

Anyone else remember Markwayne Mullin berating an anti-plastics witness with questions like, "What are your glasses made of? What's your bottle made of?"
Looks like completely dependent on a volatile commodity could be a bad thing. Someone in the government may want to look into this.
it is quite possible that in the coming decades it will be plainly evident that Trump put up numbers that easily lap Stalin and Mao for death via starvation and disease
Easy: fund the $78 billion backlog of repairs to New York City Public Housing that has accumulated since HUD funding cuts in the 1990s
people being more instinctively cynical about and critical of Mamdani and AOC than Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens are not our friends
Balint to Noem: "You're the secretary of DHS -- for now. And you think you're immune from accountability. But I promise you this: one day he is not gonna be president anymore. And when that day comes, we will still be here. And in hearings like this, we are going to continue to prove your guilt."
really what this tells you is that Hernando de Soto is old as hell
The current prime minister of Peru, Bill Clinton and Kevin Spacey boarded Jeffrey Epstein's plane together on the famed Africa trip

I agree with the premise here, but would offer a slightly different interpretation: the US political system is no longer compatible with popular control of government.
The Senate, the two party system, a Supreme Court with a legislative veto, and presidentialism make popular governance impossible.
Remember when highly qualified, visionary leaders were turned down for jobs in the Biden administration because they had smoked weed
In January, the Department of Energy quietly pulled the plug on Puerto Rico’s $1 billion Energy Resilience Fund.
They even have the temerity to blame the island's 100% renewable roadmap for “raising energy costs” and “threatening the reliability of their energy system.”

Somebody should invent a socioeconomic system which is good at allocating resources
This is one of the most important cases that galvanized Black people in the late 40s through the 1950s. Almost every major Black leader had a comment about it. It is also one of the most successful defense committees that was organized in the 20th century. Almost no one knows about it today.
How we beat ICE👇
This guy is so prolific at doing crimes… future ICE tribunal prosecutors will thank this day
That they thought to ask about this and thought it would be a liability of some kind but didn’t think to change any policy is… wild
unfortunately same
It is now confirmed from multiple sources that ICE shot a legal observer dead on Portland in Minneapolis between 34th and 33rd street. The victim is dead

You can defeat your opponents without converting them. Demobilization matters.
When there's a leadership vacuum and people in a movement are fighting each other, it saps energy. They lose organizational power. Fewer of them take action. Fewer vote.

Ela é uma figura mesmo! Ela é trans e muito conservadora. Mas o manual de escritura dela, “Economical writing” é realmente muito bom. Uma lástima que as ideas dela não tanto.
Paging all Third Amendment rights defenders: they are putting military technology in your home and saying you have to put up with it!
