What if the mobile phone company managed to produce a robot that not just ran a marathon, but followed some historic messenger path, delivering a document record time. Like ancient Inca route or Roman Empire route? Some folks think big picture, long-term. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Blocked for answering the question? 😂

I was about to provide a very serious reply.

Regarding mobile phone company sponsoring the event or funding the winning robot? They’re just investing in technology. There’s probably a parent company actually working on robots.

Also, imagine the ads …

Humans spend billions on competitions to hit tiny white balls across mowed lawns, for prestige or entertainment.

At least the robo competition has practical value, developing better technology for myriad positive applications.

Artemis and one her dogs?

This image brings me joy, the hand gently holding the coiled leash, the dog looking back at her for assurance or approval or just excited anticipation of Artemis about to let her go to explore. I can feel the energy. A walk or hunt. Thanks for sharing the photo. 🙂

We keep hearing that the LLM Genie is out of the bottle, but so were CFCs, leaded gasoline, and so many issues we’ve pushed back on. There is no reason we need to accept things that harm us individually and collectively.

Push back.

Or grow as an annual? 😬

(Not aloe, but our jade plant is so out of control I’m tempted to stick a bunch of pieces in the ground to see how large they get before frost hits.)

Also, flexible work hours where possible so the roads aren’t overwhelmed twice a day.

One change that really helped was encouraging remote work wherever possible to reduce load on infrastructure. And indirectly raised income slightly, improved quality of life, good for families, took pressure off demand for gas … but oligarchs and DJT did everything possible to kill remote work. 🙄

Enhanced color image shows a close-up of extensive, large dunes in the north polar region of Mars. There is seasonal, bright ice on the slipface of many of the dunes, and dark patches between the dunes as well.

HiPOD: Translucent Ice on Dunes

At the time of year we took the image, the whole scene was probably covered in carbon dioxide ice. Some of this ice is translucent, so you can see the dark dunes through it.

The law of the land also has their back. Uprooting or destroying bluebells is illegal. Penalties can be expensive. Not as bad as the ancient myths of course. Unless it is in our woodland

There is also the fact that every part of them is toxic

British mythology looks after our native bluebells

Trampling or picking them will result in a fairy putting a spell on you, resulting in you wandering around the woodland in a trance forever. And if you hear a bluebell ring, the same fairies will ensure you don’t last the day

Bluebells at Worfield.

Bluebells at Worfield.

A carpet of bluebells in Chempshill Coppice, Worfield. The fragrance was almost overpowering as I followed a footpath through this woodland near Bridgnorth, which I make a point of visiting every spring. Half the world’s bluebells are to be found in the UK, with... #Shropshire

I’ve occasionally wondered whether there’s been sufficient time for some sort of civilization, a different species, to rise and fall, and leave zero trace.

Not relevant to this shared post, really. Just reminded me about the wondering.

This realistically rendered Flavian era mummy portrait from Roman Egypt gives us a rare look at an older person from that era. It has been on loan for over 70 years to the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, but was recently sold at auction. Will it disappear into a private collection? 🏺

Need this in the US.

I could barely see a pedestrian crossing in front of an oncoming car because the car’s headlights were so bright. And it was an urban street. There were overhead street lights. The glare was overwhelming. Barely a silhouette of the pedestrian visible.
