In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

It feels like yesterday that online-engineers-of-a-certain-age were saying that heavy freight could never be electrified. To quote William Gibson, "The future is here. It’s just not widely distributed yet." Fossil fuel interests want to keep it that way.

Rachel Reeves, Chris Mcdonald, Ed Miliband, Keir Starmer. All wearing fluorescent jackets.

Great how your phone gives you memories.

It's two years to the day since Rachel Reeves told me if Labour won the general election they would send the National Audit Office in to investigate the Teesworks saga.

The authority responsible hasn't published audited accounts since then, yet nothing.

Pancreatic cancer usually kills within a year or two of diagnosis. In this trial, nearly all 8 responders are still alive six years later. The 5-year survival rate is usually only around 12%. We should be increasing federal funding for mRNA research, not cutting it.

Asked about JK Rowling’s opposition to trans rights, Dugdale said: “I have a huge respect for JK Rowling. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her before and I think her story and how she came to be this prolific, incredible children’s writer in this city as a single mum writing in a cafe is phenomenal and an inspiration to so many women across the world.

“I think she’s been a really powerful political advocate [for] improving the lot of single mums, making a case for tackling poverty and inequality in all its forms, and there is absolutely a place for her in public life to share her experiences and tell her story and make a difference.”

Stop letting water companies delay fines, urges Oxfordshire MP Henley and Thame MP Freddie van Mierlo says the law currently

MP introduces Bill to prevent England water companies from "delaying" payment of fines.

Companies negotiate fines, which are later deferred/waived. It is a licence to abuse.

Execs rewarded for boosting profits through illegal practices, face no fines.

Bill won't become law. Govt/Tories oppose it.

We never get a chance to truly rest. We are constantly bombarded with expectation after expectation and we die feeling like we were never enough.

We are plenty.
We are tired.

reminder to self that falling behind isn’t a moral failure. Burn out isn’t poor planning. Executive dysfunction isn’t laziness.

We are all animals asked to do too much. We are all running from invisible predators in the forms of potential homelessness or criminalization.

Federal judge unloads on ‘unserious’ RFK Jr., says anti-trans policy showed his ‘cruelty’ Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai vacated the “Kennedy Declaration,” finding it unlawfully attempted to override medical standards and restrict care for transgender youth.

Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.

“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

When Angela Rayner underpaid £40,000 in stamp duty, Richard Tice said it was "morally completely indefensible” and she should resign if she had “any moral decency”.

Now we learn he set up four shell companies that let him avoid paying £100,000 he owed in tax and to then transfer the cash to Reform

Twice I’ve been referred to rheumatologist by GP. Saw a physiotherapist at the GP who also referred. Three times seen a physiotherapist to “triage”. Been referred again, and yet again the appointment is for a physiotherapist. The level of gatekeeping is what is causing delays. Two years now.

Successive governments have failed to learn lessons of Grenfell Tragedy The conditions that facilitated the tragedy remain unchecked

Corporate capture of the state kills.

Inquiry into the Grenfell fire found dishonesty, false claims about safety of building materials, regulatory collusion.

72 people died. No one prosecuted. Companies still get public contracts.

Govts push deregulation.

It is very appalling and sometimes quite frightening to see how trans-exclusionary feminists have allied with rightwing attacks on gender. The anti-gender ideology movement is not opposing a specific account of gender, but seeking to eradicate "gender" as a concept or discourse, a field of study, an approach to social power. Sometimes they claim that "sex" alone has scientific standing, but other times they appeal to divine mandates for masculine domination and difference. They don't seem to mind contradicting themselves.
The Terfs (trans exclusionary radical feminists) and the so-called gender critical writers have also rejected the important work in feminist philosophy of science showing how culture and nature interact (such as Karen Barad, Donna Haraway, EM Hammonds or Anne Fausto-Sterling) in favor of a regressive and spurious form of biological essentialism. So they will not be part of the coalition that seeks to fight the anti-gender movement. The anti-gender ideology is one of the dominant strains of fascism in our times. So the Terfs will not be part of the contemporary struggle against fascism, one that requires a coalition guided by struggles against racism, nationalism, xenophobia and carceral violence, one that is mindful of the high rates of femicide throughout the world, which include high rates of attacks on trans and genderqueer people.
The anti-gender movement circulates a spectre of "gender" as a force of destruction, but they never actually read any works in gender studies. Quick and fearful conclusions take the place of considered judgments. Yes, some work on gender is difficult and not everyone can read it, so we have to do better in reaching a broader public. As important as it is, however, to make complex concepts available to a popular audience, it is equally important to encourage intellectual inquiry as part of public life. Unfortunately, we are living in anti-intellectual times, and neo-fascism is becoming more normalized.

Legal advisers help migrants pose as gay to get asylum, undercover BBC investigation finds The BBC exposes a shadow industry charging migrants thousands of pounds to help them cheat the asylum system.

Disgusting reporting by BBC using a tiny number of cases to suggest widespread abuse of a system which routinely denies LGBTQIA+ individuals asylum and forces them back into environments of persecution. This article massively distorts the reality of the situation. 1/

Heat pumps are the most efficient heating technology ever invented.

They harvest and compress pre existing heat in the air, ground or water and transport it where it is needed.

That energy is all around us.

And it does not have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

We should see UBI as a type of common wealth dividend.

It has no cost. Rather, it's a payment to us from something we own in common, like natural resources, sovereign wealth funds, and AI dividends.

Health secretary keeps taking donations linked to private health | Good Law Project Wes Streeting has bagged another £58,000 from sources connected to the private health sector since taking over at the health department. But what do his backers expect in return?

Streeting is a grotesque who has personally raked in around £372,000 from private health care companies to help him with 'staffing costs...'

Does that sound likely? Why would private companies lavish so much on him? There is only one possible expectation: profit.
