A chunky Triceratops with a striking red, yellow, and black frill charges at the viewer, kicking up clouds of dust.
A speckled black and cream Iguanodon stands erect in a lush forest clearing.
A pair of Tsintaosaurus with unicorn-like crests supporting inflatable nasal sacs. They charge across a dusty landscape below a clear sky.
A red-headed Utahraptor with a stocky, muscular build launches itself at a spiny-backed sauropod, ripping into its flank with its clawed feet.
Today’s four random pieces of palaeoart:
Luis Rey’s Triceratops, Maurice Wilson’s Iguanodon, Dmitry Bogdanov’s Tsintaosaurus, and John Bindon’s Utahraptor and sauropod.
We had a Western theme this year. Got to wear my hat!
I attended the Pikes Peak Writers Conference Friday to Sunday. It’s billed as the friendliest writers con in the US, and it’s true. Wonderful people, the chance to talk to agents, useful craft and business information, great keynotes. And they awarded me writer of the year, a deeply humbling honor.
GARY OLDMAN as Cary Grant from ‘North By Northwest’ for a photo project whereby Actors posed for a role they always dreamt of playing.
(It had to be self-deprecating, ironic, absurd, a bit twisted and kind of like a funny/bad dream take on the movie.)
Love it.
Fresh snow on Pikes Peak and down slope into Colorado Springs. 19 degrees F overnight.
Colorado doing Colorado things. Snow on Pikes Peak from yesterday’s storm. Back in the 70s tomorrow. I do so love it here.
“Stuff your eyes with wonder, he said, live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.”

I was thinking the same thing. The costume is the same.
The entrance to Amache National Historic Site in Granada, Colorado. Note the dragonfly upper center in the picture. I think that's what it is unless someone has a better theory. I didn't notice it when I was there.
A guard tower and water tower at Amache Internment Camp.
Block 12H, Building 7 is a reconstructed barracks at Amache. Note the tar paper used for the uninsulated walls.
Flowers grow among the fragments of stone and broken concrete at Amache Internment Camp.
I went to Amache yesterday. 10,000+ Japanese Americans, most American citizens, were incarcerated at Amache from 1942 to 1945. We remember and learn from our past, the good and heroic, the bad and despicable. I believe we can grow as a people , that we can say 'never again' and make it stick.
It's much easier to do geology when the Earth's bones are bare. Vegetation hides so much stratigraphic truth.

Spent the afternoon in my prep room. I've been so busy with robotics for the past 6 months, I haven't had much time for fossils.
I'm going into my daughter's class this week to share fossils and wanted to prep a few of her trilobites she found last fall in Ohio to share.
Before and after.
An add would be awesome. Thank you!

I have a folder on my desktop full of Pikes Peak photos. I can't help myself. It feels wrong to let the colors fade without capturing them.
If Jim Henson had a hand in it, it’s a Muppet.
I raised my daughter on Poe short stories, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The X-Files starting when she was eight. Having a child is like getting a build-a-person kit. You only have one chance to get it right and I so love how she turned out.
