I felt compelled to make this in Blender

By the way, are you familiar with @lorenschmidt.bsky.social? Her aesthetic and procedural works seem up your alley

It's be nice if they had chosen JXL instead; that format both has pretty good lossless compression, great lossy compression, and progressive decoding

I think Bluesky uses WebM now? Past a certain point recently it seems every image I download is in that format. It likely has some similar but different compression quirks

Very cool! I think WFC handles backtracking by checking if propagated constraints create an invalid scenario, and if so it undoes the changes and forbids the changed state, which sounds similar. Probability weighting from Markov chains sounds like some extra sauce, though!

Even if isn't deleted, it makes it easier to return to pieces you like. It's a win-win

Very cool and very satisfying to watch, is this something like wave function collapse? I don't see any solver backtracking, but it seems similar

Here's a quick peek at the new lighting in Island Architect! Feels really nice to see the lighting react as you build houses, edit the terrain or watch time pass.

The new solution has bounced lighting and reflections, all without relying on ray tracing hardware.

And so AI continues to extrude disappointment.

Some of this criticism could be attributed to an amateur's sloppy myopia if it were real writing, but that em-dash to semicolon is inexplicable (and a clever observation).

An RSDF render of Sherma. There are artifacts around small lines and tight corners, but the colour transitions are sharp.

The best I have to share right now is based on a trace-over of Sherma. Here's an image using a 128px (!!!!) SDF; I think it's pretty high quality, especially compared to a bitmap of the same size.

For quite some time I've been working on rendering multi-colour vectors with SDFs, and I have a solution I'm fairly confident in that I would like to share soon. But first I ought to finalise my SVG converter, and create some SVG art of my own to show it off...

This is so, so well-articulated.

Those player animations look very good, especially the tail. Are you using procedural animation in there?

Love the choice of alt text

Especially if it's a bunch of inconsequential ones, that's where the meat lies

Unfortunately "talent" definitionally implies natural (effortless) ability, and is often used by legacy media this way, but many people just say it to be nice and as a substitute for "skilled"

publicly traded game companies is such an idea. i have an idea, instead of making sound long term plans which benefit our employees, the integrity of our work, and that of our company, let's have a bunch of fickle parasites make all our long term decisions for us.

This brings to mind Outer Wilds, Rain World, Animal Well, and Stray, which I am also quite fond of

I've created the first character animations for Hana, she can now walk, run and jump. Also, dust particles ๐Ÿ’จ
There's still plenty of animations to make, and I'll probably give these another pass before all is said and done, but I'm pretty happy with the result

Their two latest posts capture something interesting about the perversion of coding as craft, of the betrayal and revulsion, but disappointingly plummet into resignation as if they have no say over it

Once I heard somebody suggest gluing pencil stubs onto sticks or other pencils to get every last bit...

That came out super clean, can flash just convert bitmap this well automatically or do you do a bunch of cleanup?
