Land rent is either publicly collected or privately captured. It is a measure of the exclusion of others and a measure of public service costs toward equally benefited land. So there aren’t really any downsides to it although many do draw flawed conclusions based on concepts like ‘ability to pay’.

Alas, there is no equitable decarbonization occurring. calmatters.org/environment/... and of course emissions are merely one element to a sustainable planet. Sadly, habitat destruction and biodiversity loss simply do not get the same level of attention that our inadequate emission reductions gets.
