I wish any deconstruction of Hatoful Boyfriend and other "wacky" romance VNs actually played the VNs they're deconstructing. No seriously I don't think any of these bastards have actually played Hatoful Boyfriend

-OEVN devs are resentful of that low bar to entry. So they've convinced themselves that their stories are subversive unlike "other" VNs. And then they decide to deconstruct what they think a VN is and then they hype each other up and it's a cycle and I hate it with all my heart.

- There's plenty of free resources, too, so if you have no gamedev knowledge, VNs are really quite easy to make compared to other games, and they're an easy way to tell a story.

I do genuinely think a lot of the OEVN devs who claim to be deconstructing Visual Novels primarily only play other OEVNs and take inspiration from those, when those OEVNs primarily take inspiration from other OEVNs, and so on and so forth.

OEVN devs will claim to be making a deconstruction of the genre and then collectively all make the same game :/
