ATF3-dependent formation of inclusion bodies in polyQ-expressing human iPSC-derived neurons confers cellular protection - Cell Death & Differentiation Cell Death & Differentiation - ATF3-dependent formation of inclusion bodies in polyQ-expressing human iPSC-derived neurons confers cellular protection

Are PolyQ Inclusion Bodies detrimental or protective in Huntington’s Disease? The amazing Walaa Oweis in my lab shows they are protective in human iPSC-derived neurons, confirming Finkbeiner’s observation in rodents. She further found that ATF3 is required for their formation.

Distinct roles for SETα and SETβ in early cell fate decisions Abstract. SET, the nuclear proto-oncogene, is primarily expressed as SETα in embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Upon pluripotency exit, a transcriptional switch

Finally out! Patrick developed a system to study SET isoform specificity in ES cells, revealing a role for SETa/b switch in endoderm specification. Check it out🔥

H3.3 deposition counteracts the replication-dependent enrichment of H3.1 at chromocenters in embryonic stem cells - Nature Communications In mammals, two major non-centromeric histone H3 (H3.1/2 and H3.3) variants, display distinct nuclear distribution patterns across the genome and use distinct deposition pathways. Here the authors rev...

We showed the same phenomenon in pluripotent models of neurodegenerative diseases, as well as in AD and HD post-mortem brains:

It took Sci Adv 6 months (!) to review and reject our paper. A single (addressable!) review. When we appealed, it took a month to answer that we can appeal🤦. The Editor is concealed. Disgraceful and unprofessional behavior.
